I wrote this a number of years ago, and try to repost during election years. As always, respectfully interested in your thoughts.

Uninformed voters have been around since the beginning. That is why the electoral college is in place and not popular vote. Even the Congress was not elected by popular vote initially. The Senators and Congressmen were appointed by the state legislatures. So since this has always been an issue, I wouldn't say they are a threat to the Republic. Politicians are...

Where did you get military voters from? The question is uninformed, not uniformed.

A little something I wrote a number of years ago, which I like to trot out in election season. I'm not suggesting here that anyone CAN'T vote, or shouldn't be allowed to vote, only that the people described here should be encouraged to "Please don't vote" as a result of their failure to gain a understanding of the immense responsibility an informed voter and the terrible consequences of doing so willfully uninformed. Happy Election season!

• If you haven't read, and understand the Constitution....
PLEASE DON'T VOTE!

If you haven't taken the time to research the Candidate's positions...
PLEASE DON'T VOTE!

If you don't know the platform of the party you support... ...
PLEASE DON'T VOTE!

If you don't understand there's a difference between the powers allocated to State and Federal Governments respectively...
PLEASE DON'T VOTE!

If you don't know what an "enumerated" power is....
PLEASE DON'T VOTE!

If you believe it is somebody else's responsibility to pay for your education....
PLEASE DON'T VOTE!

If you believe that a majority of the people should be permitted to vote your rights away...
PLEASE DON'T VOTE!

If you don't know what "Inalienable" rights are...
PLEASE DON'T VOTE!

If you believe the 2nd Amendment was written for hunting...
PLEASE DON'T VOTE!

If you believe the Constitution is a "living" document that can be changed by court orders, or judicial decisions or executive orders.....
PLEASE DON'T VOTE!

If you believe a politically appointed Judge can "interpret" the Constitution better than the men who actually wrote it.....
PLEASE DON'T VOTE!

If you believe deficit spending, and spiraling debt is our path out of a financial crisis...
PLEASE DON'T VOTE!

If you equate ILLEGAL immigration with LAWFUL immigration....
PLEASE DON'T VOTE!

If you don't know why the "Commerce clause" was written into the Constitution, and how it has been subverted....
PLEASE DON'T VOTE!

If you don't know that "Promoting the General Welfare" means passing laws that apply to all equally, and not passing laws that benefit, or harm any individual or group specifically....
PLEASE DON'T VOTE!

In short.... IF YOU HAVEN'T TAKEN THE TIME TO EDUCATE YOURSELF ON THE ISSUES; ON THE HISTORY SURROUNDING THE ISSUES, AND ON THE RAMIFICATIONS OF BAD DECISIONS.....
If you haven't read, and understand the Constitution....you have not taken seriously your responsibility as a citizen and I implore you to....
PLEASE DON'T VOTE!

Large portions of our population poking around, in the dark, with sharp sticks, uninformed, and ignorant could prove to be destructive for all of us. Besides, someone could lose an eye.

SSG Gerhard S. - but the thing is, even SCOTUS justices, who have done nothing but research the history and application of the Constitution for decades, do not agree on some of the topics you list as reasons that people should not vote due to their "ignorance". Do you really believe that any of the SCOTUS Justices are ignorant or uninformed or that you are better informed or educated on the history of the Constitution than any justice? I hope not. It's not a case of being uninformed, it's a case of having a difference of opinion. There's a huge distinction there. Your post essentially says that everyone who doesn't agree with you should not vote.

While you are free to feel that way, I think your thread title is misleading and deceptive as this thread isn't really (IMO) about you wanting us to discuss uninformed voters. Rather, you simply use it to state that anyone that doesn't think like you, informed or not, shouldn't vote.

Edit: but I did remove the down vote because paratrooper. ;)

LTC (Join to see) - No Sir, I do not believe those justices to be ignorant. I do believe some want the Constitution to mean something other than what it actually says, and means, based upon their beliefs, their sense of justice, or their political/philosophical perspective. Regardless, I would challenge you, or anybody on the right, or on the left, to find the clause in article III that gives the Court, or any other branch of government the power to "interpret", alter, abridge, or otherwise change the words, or the meaning of any part of the Constitution, or to grant the Federal government powers not contained in the Constitution.
Thank you for your thoughtful reply. Airborne!

LTC (Join to see) - first, I would like to reiterate that I do not suggest anybody NOT be allowed to vote. My suggestion is aimed that those who have not taken the time, or effort to, at least, inform themselves on the issues at hand, on the candidates, on the purpose, and functioning of a Constitutionally limited government, to PLEASE do so, or alternatively to voluntarily PLEASE DON'T VOTE!
For instance, it doesn't take a Supreme Court Justice to read the Constitution and recognize the omission of the word education in that document. Nor does it take a constitutional scholar to look at the 10th Amendment and determine that any powers not granted the federal government by the Constitution, belong to the States respectively, or to the people. Understanding these two principles, it is not difficult to conclude that the federal government has no business involving itself an hour education system. Though some may wish to label this as a far-right argument, I would suggest this is a basic constitutional argument. I would further add that I am not necessarily against the federal government involving itself in education. My argument rests on the idea that a constitutional amendment should be passed to allow it to do so if there is support in that regard.

LTC (Join to see) - One more thing Sir, I would be happy to go through my list line by line and explain how it is NOT a right winged political statement, if you wish.
