Example : I have 4 AAMS and on my ASU’s I have the AAM ribbon and 2 oak leaf clusters. I get that’s not the correct amount but am I completely wrong? Is there a reg somewhere saying ibhge to wear the exact amount on my erb? I thought it was okay to wear less oak leafs rather than add more than what you got? I looked at AR 600-8-22 and that didn’t help.

The person with the most knowledge of what you have earned is you -- that said, you should honor the men and women who took the time and recommended you for the awards you've earned by wearing the appropriate appurtenances. I did not have the time nor inclination to memorize Soldiers' ERBs, but once aware -- doom on you. Good luck on your decision.

Back when BLC was called PLDC, they taught us to find answers in the regs.
AR 670-1, ch 20-2:
a. Commanders may require the wear of authorized awards on the following occasions: (1) Parades, reviews, inspections, and funerals.
(2) Ceremonial and social occasions.
b. Unless directed by a commander per paragraph 20–2a, authorized awards are worn at the option of the wearer,

If the commander requires wear of authorized awards, that means every award you are authorized.
If you are wearing them by option, that still implies all. But even if you are wearing them at your option, why would you want to be wrong?

It’s not the fact I wanted to be wrong. I didn’t even have the chance to add a oak leaf cluster. It was a day before the board is when the 4th AAM popped up on my erb.

If you are wearing awards at your option you can be selective, it's common at the Pentagon to see Soldiers only wear their top row.

SGT (Join to see) - I won't get into whether a board would be provided with a same day download of your ERB or one that was printed days or weeks earlier. Whether you walked in with one more or one less than what they were reading, it would be a question with a simple answer.
That said, the ERB updates when someone perms a document and codes the update. And all that happened well after the award was completed.
Best practice is to always have the next oak leaf for all awards you have that use them.

LTC (Join to see) Sir, I don’t think that’s the same thing. Electing to wear only your top three ribbons (which is authorized by regulations) is different from not wearing the appropriate device(s) on a ribbon that you are wearing.

I’m trying to understand why you wouldn’t? Go to your supply SGT or ANY clothing and sales and buy one?

The AAM got added late to my erb. Like literally the day before the board they wanted a updated ERB so I printed one out and went to the promotion board the next day. It’s not the fact that I didn’t want to add the oak leaf cluster is that I didn’t have time to even add it on. Therefore I got booted out of the board for that reason.

SGT (Join to see) hmmm. I’ll stay out of NCO business but would question that being the sole reason about the board.

You mentioned you printed out your updated ERB the day before the board and I assume you knew you had the extra AAM in advance as well?

Not trying to give you a hard time, but it seems like there is more background here.

I didn’t know s1 was going to update that quick he said it may couple days to go on my erb it may not. So what do you do in that situation you know? So I didn’t add more than what I had at the time.

SGT (Join to see) if you’re asking what “I” would do - I’d make sure I had a copy of my award and the necessary clusters ready as soon as I get it.

I understand this happened fast, but just remember no one will ever care more about your career than you do.
