ALL New Connections - Back by Popular Demand! I'm still receiving some great photos from all you RP Members. THANKS!
Keep them coming!
All you photogenic military personnel out there in RP Land let’s have a little photo session just to lighten it up today! Share the first photograph or the earliest photograph of yourself when you entered the military and tell us the date of the photo.
I'll start with Private Burroughs in 1975 at Fort Leonard Wood, MO & end with Colonel Mikel in 2005!

Grandfather, father and me.
We never had any photos of my father when he was in the military until I joined in 2008 and then BAM they showed up out of nowhere. My aunt found some when I was in tech school. In fact my parents found an artist who drew a version of this photo too. Like one of those caricature drawings but nowhere near as silly.

COL Mikel J. Burroughs - You are welcome and thank you! This is my fathers side of the family. I wish I had photos of my mothers biological father when he was in the service. I managed to find some info on his service that I have never told my mother about, and her stepfather (who I am named after) served in the Navy, and later went (and retired) from the Army Reserve as a MSG.
My mother in law, her stepfather was in the Chilean Navy for 10+ years and her uncle was a holocaust survivor, moved to the US, gained citizenship and retired from the US Army, had Vietnam service and passed away over a year ago. RIP

SrA David Steyer,
I love these pictures that show family History. I so wish I had asked my Dad ( WWII) Grandfather (who fought in WW I) and my Uncles more about their time in the Service. I know about my three brothers (we were all in different times during the sixties). I was Non-Combat, as was my brother John. Mike, well, he fought in combat and earned a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. I got a good conduct medal. LOL
We all served though. Smiles, SGT Hughes.

Not my oldest pic. Baghdad, Iraq 2003. I might have a OSUT one laying around somewhere, I'll look later. Note the multiple camouflage patterns on my gear....I seem to remember something about going to war with the Army we got not the army we want lol.

Right before the change happened the ASG Cmdr. issued officers a directive to purchase additional woodland camo uniforms... Arrrggghhh.

CPT (Join to see) - Ouch! That really sucks. When I hear things like that, it makes me thankful that I wasn't an officer.
The uniform in my pic was the nomex ABDUs because they hadn't issued desert ones yet lol.

Thank you. Our countries share a lot in common, with just enough differences to make laugh at each other.

SSG Rob Godwin,
G'day Sergeant! Two of my buddies served alongside you Aussies in Vietnam. I was deployed to New Zealand for six months to train with the Kiwi's. I love those sweaters - and took one home as a gift from the Sergeant Major from Waiouru. We went to the Glow worm caves on our mid deployment break. Thanks for your Service.

COL Mikel J. Burroughs Didn't know you were a Mustang, Colonel. It's not possible for me to have any more respect for you than I already do, but if it was....I would.

SN Greg Wright Thanks for the kind words - loved being enlisted and enjoyed being an officer as well. Gave me a very good perspective - always tried to be a "Soldiers - Soldier!"

The toughest 15 weeks of my life - yet the most rewarding. Made me see myself for what I was and what I could be. I always felt my enlisted time made me a better officer. I remember the advice that my Dad (USN Chief Machinist Mate - WW2) gave me when I graduated from OCS. Take care of your men. You always eat last, you never view them as inferior to you and you always make sure that they are safe.
