Dear Colleagues -

I had hoped I would never hear multiple echoes of automatic weapons fire bouncing off multiple walls in one of our cities. It brings back too many memories of treating men, women, and kids torn apart by these weapons.

If you still have contacts in the Attorney General’s Office / Justice Department please try to make certain they see this video – where you see an AR15, AK47, and MAC10 with no interior modification and no external device firing at full auto rate.

https://youtu.be/D0WpN_3xlO0 (Mac 10 semi-auto)
https://vimeo.com/126779605 (AR15 & AK47)

The problem in Las Vegas is NOT the “bump stock” - rather it is the intrinsic full auto design of the AR15 and similar auto cycling purportedly "semi-auto" rifles – inherited from the fully automatic capability of the parent military rifle design.

The AR15 and all similar auto cycling rifles should be immediately added to the definition of a "machine gun" in the National Fire Arms Act (NFA) – because every such weapon is capable of mimicking full auto fire at 10+ rounds per second.

These are obviously dangerous and destructive devices – and should be immediately banned from routine sale, possession, and use – as mandated under NFA – with a mandatory 10 year federal prison term for NFA violations. You can still own an NFA weapon if you register it, pass background check, secure it, and pay the tax.

This is a matter near and dear to my heart. I don’t want to ever see another city in our country – where first responders are pinned down, people are wounded and dying all around them – and they can’t stop the shooting.

I most particularly don’t want to see another civilian emergency department with docs and nurses overrun with mass casualties with so many life threatening high energy military penetrating projectile and shrapnel wounds.

The specter of multiple terrorists repeatedly spraying high velocity military rounds at 10+ rounds per second into a large crowd at a music festival, sporting event, or other large gathering must not be allowed to be repeated. It is time we make it far more difficult to own, possess, or use any weapon capable of full auto fire rates killing and/or wounding large groups of totally unarmed and unprotected civilians.

Warmest Regards, Sandy

p.s. The bump method – with no internal modifications – no external mechanical device – enables the AR-15, AK-47, SAIGA, M&P 15/22, Ruger 10/22, Ruger Mini-14 – and similar rifles – to fire repeatedly at full auto rate – until they jam – or the barrel overheats.

1LT Sandy Annala I understand your concern regarding the tragedy in Las Vegas, but have to disagree with you on the solution. I am not a fan of bump-stocks or trigger cranks or other gadgets that would simulate automatic fire, but I would categorize these much the same as I would a high horsepower automobile in that its not needed, but it sure is a lot of fun if that's your thing.

There are several million or the weapons you mention in the hands of law abiding citizens that haven't hurt anyone, yet you seem to feel that because of one idiot, the rest of us should give up our rights. I disagree with you here. Earlier today I read that a man in Canada tried to run over a police officer with a Chevy Malibu. Using your logic, the Chevy Malibu should be outlawed.

SSG Robert Webster - Yes - I understand - but the intention of the law was to forbid mechanically repeating auto fire weapons - gap that will no doubt be closed soon. Who wants to be responsible for the next similar attack? Sandy

1LT Sandy Annala - No one wants to see innocent people killed. I don't want my rights diminished because of some idiot either. Look at the CDC list of what kills people in the USA, firearms isn't even in the top ten! Yet when some idiot does something stupid the left wants to attack legal gun ownership. If you have that much time on your hands, start attacking the top ten.

LTC (Join to see) - I understand what kills people in this country. I just don't want to see another mass copycat shooting exploiting the repeating fire of auto cycling rifles. The media is looking into these weapons and the larger 100 round magazines - and the means to convert to full auto - and to mimic full auto - will soon put pressure on the auto cycling rifle design defects that enable these accessories and devices to be used to kill and wound so many other people. This is a weapon of war insufficiently modified by the manufacturers to permanently prevent easy conversion or add on devices returning auto fire or the equivalent of auto fire capability. What happens when we see copycats? Warmest Regards, Sandy

1LT Sandy Annala - Why do you think the Founding Fathers put the 2nd Amendment in the Bill of Rights?
SGM Erik Marquez
OK so down vote removed, as it was not intended.
NEXT
Lets start with this/.
What you want you cannot have, it is not a possibility \.
You can not ask for them back
You can not buy them back
And no US government as a whole has the willpower to try and take them back
So you are on a fools errand .
That said, your still wrong.
No Automatic weapon was used.
Your self made term of "Auto cycling" is essentially an automatic weapon, already outlawed.
Auto weapons have been used only a hand full of times in modern history.
Semi auto weapons like an Ar pattern weapon are rarely used in crimes.
If the cartels and drug dealer s are not using them daily when they have almost unlimited funds and contacts why is that you think??? simply, they don't need them to accomplish the job, they don't want to hassle with getting caught with one, and they don't want the heat from using one.
Next, firearms of EVERY type used in crimes kill many fewer, by the thousands than malpractice and Alcohol. If this is truly a save the children and world feel good idea, ban recreational alcohol use. It literally has NO purpose other than social and legal drug.
Ban tobacco it kills 10 of thousands a year, and has no socially redeeming value other that a of a social and legal drug.
Ban personal possession of a vehicle, mandate mass transit and government operated transit only.

But as always, is not about saving the most lives for the best use of effort... if it were, guns would be one of the LAST things addressed...

1LT Sandy Annala - Learn something every day, in this case how to waste a lot of ammo with a sub-machine gun. Even adding a folding stock to a MAC it is still considered a machine pistol, sub-machinegun, (sub-munitions) because it usually fires 9mm pistol vice rifle cartridges. I know Kel Tec and others have shorties in all variations of calibers. Since you referred to ARs do you have any of a stock AR doing the same thing? I know there's one of almost anything on youtube. You do realize the difference in design/bolt between a MAC10/11 and a shoulder fired AR? So, based on the fact that someone has found a way to loosely grip a MAC 10 and spray let's immediately outlaw ARs. Yes? Apples to oranges comparison, same as it would be to compare an open to a closed bolt. You also realize a rookie and a file can carefully take a .001 at a time off a sear and cause an AR to act almost any way they want. Let's outlaw files too. You just proved a valuable point though. Assuming this is a stock weapon, what caused it to fire in auto fashion? Was it the weapon or the shooter? Since it required the operator to cause it by his grip, I think you have your answer. Let's just outlaw people. Secure all happiness and just call it quits. Again, at a point this becomes ridiculous. Are you familiar with nitrous oxide on a stock auto? It can turn a Camaro into a 911 Turbo for a few seconds. Ever heard of modifying a Q6600 Intel to a Q9800 or similar with scotch tape and a few snips? People will always find ways to use things in other than their intended purpose, and virtually anything can be used as a weapon. I respect your compassion but you are IMO barking up the wrong tree with outlawing ARs.

1LT Sandy Annala - Thanks. Let me know when you can do it from your shoulder and actually take aim. This would be marginally effective in a crowd or at distances of 50 feet maybe. Again, did the weapon cause this or the shooter? If in doubt lay the firearm down and see if it fires fully auto. If it doesn't and requires a human manipulation you have your answer. Ever seen anyone light an aerosol can? It makes a decent flame thrower at close range. Outlaw aerosols? Molotov cocktails? Outlaw gasoline and glass bottles. 25 feet of chain and a bench grinder and you have a lethal chain-flail. No more chain and outlaw grinders. Carbide from carbide lamp and a pint jar of water and you have a nice small bomb. No more carbide and water. Endless possibilities but they all require human interaction with otherwise safe objects. You would agree that an AR aimed and fired legally is safe if the safety procedures are followed, yes? It's not the gun it's the shooter. ARs are here to stay.

Just want to tell you how much I appreciate your nursing service to our country. I can understand your feelings about this mass casualties situation.
However, even with a new law, it will not detour a man such as Pollack. You take care.

PO3 Bob McCord - Not intended to be a spoiler Bob, but neither side has a monopoly on the methods you speak of. It's how politics works, a constant give and take to cater to their constituents. It's just more overt now due to increased awareness due to more media scrutiny and social media.

Exactly that is the kernel of truth. It’s a dangerous world with bad people in it. Accept the fact we all die and tell terrorists you don’t care...no more terror then. They’ll have to find something else to do.

Terrorists are basically cowards. In my studies, if you give them what they want, you will lose. If you target them without fear, they will apply their trade elsewhere, but unfortunately, they seldom quit.
