Considering all the illegal immigrants in this country, do you think they should be able to use welfare or public assistance considering they aren't citizens and that many working Americans are denied welfare or public assistance.

Which public assistance resources is a better question. Would you deny medical assistance to a pedestrian hit by a car, lying in the street, after you do a wallet biopsy & discover they may be an illegal? Would you literally stand over a still alive person, badly injured & NOT call 911 for an ambulance? Blanket statements/one size fits all usually do NOT fit all.

Happens everywhere in the world Colonel. American family in Italy in the 1980's? Son died because they were in a car wreck and the ambulance wouldn't take them as they had no insurance? No? Don't remember that? Americans still travel to Italy, right? There weren't any tourist-lives-matter protests were there? My wife is English and when I'm sick *IN ENGLAND* while on vacation, I am not entitled to health care JUST BECAUSE SHE'S ENGLISH. Doesn't work that way. We are the only nation that gives away free stuff and then turn right around and complain that we're running out of money.

Sgt Thomas & PO3 Murphy; I maintain my position. Of course, I'm a retired RN/NP, so that has a lot to do with it. It's unacceptable to allow someone to die because they don't have money for care.

LTC Donell Kelly - And you would last a short amount of time outside of America. Everyone does it but the USA. I do not hold it against England for treating me the way they do. I have an English equivalent of a "green card" and I make sure that my "card" is on my person when I'm in Europe as that card is my proof of insurance.

Should everyone be treated? Not really an ethics question. Someone has to pay for "free care." People like you don't work for free. My hospital is filled with great/talented nurses and doctors who are all being paid a salary that comes from somewhere. So while it may be unacceptable to not care for people, the care needs to come from somewhere. A budget needs to pay those doctor/staff salaries. People don't work for free. Pills don't show up without being bought. Beds don't clean themselves.

So the nation needs to decide which course it is going to take. Its like defense. People scream that we should be the world's policeman, yet, then turn around and whine when the Air Force wants to replace bombs that it dropped or the Army wants to replace bullets it fired. Can't have it both ways. Someone has to pay the bill. If the towns people don't want to pay the doctor wages, then sadly, the doctor shouldn't be treating people for free. Thats America's problem in a nutshell: we have two systems trying to live within the same container.

The wife deserves respect. But know your place you are not a soldier.

Sadly - we all pay for it. So while we may not like/approve/condone/want it, it is nevertheless sanctioned with pictures of dead presidents (money). So it is part and parcel of Americana. Not only that, but you vote it in too (well...most of you)! Follow the trail. Watch how your elected officials vote. Watch what they spend their time on. Kinda defeats your purposes/goals doesn't it? Not sure about your state, but in my state (Florida) one hospital in every major city is a "free/charity" hospital. And yet - the same people that voted it in, will then turn around and bleat loudy "why my med insurance so high?"

Why indeed.

So sadly - despite the resounding "NO/HELL NO" votes from the RP respondents, the un-insured (and by proxy, illegals) will continue to get care well into the year 2017 using all of our tax dollars. Why...may I be so stereotypical as to say that it will remain that way in to 2018 too? Nah...that'd be too mean...
