Considering all the illegal immigrants in this country, do you think they should be able to use welfare or public assistance considering they aren't citizens and that many working Americans are denied welfare or public assistance.

I started salting money away, buying savings bonds shortly after I enlisted.
at first I didn't know if I would or not re-enlist. It didn't take long to make up my mind. I put on A1C when I completed basic
military training.. while at Bmt I I took the
By-pass test for a skill level as a Cook. I'd worked several years for my great Aunt in her Restaurant.. working my way up..
I had a plan.. and it came together.. I got in good with an AF recruiter(he's passed on to that recruiting station in the sky. ). I got tested and he got it back and I did my papers on my 17th b'day, couple days later
Did pre-physical and Friday final physical and sworn in. Went to Bms that night ..
Halfway through took by-pass skill level
Test.. Aced that... was at top of flight.. end of bms came, got sent to my unit.. e
Rest is history !

I worked in a state welfare/Assistance office for a while. At that time (1998-2000) Illegals were NOT allowed to obtain assistance for themselves, but were counted on assistance for income purposes for any legal dependents. For example: one family--Father and Mother illegal, All children born in the USA and considered legal. So father and mother had to provide their income information and status, but were not counted in the amount of food stamps processed. Family of 5, Two illegals, 3 Legal--food stamps calculated for 3 people not 5. Technically though, the two illegals being the adults have control over the food stamps for the kids. Also it's been quite a while since I worked in the assistance office so I don't know if the rules have changed so much so as to allow illegals the access. If the law has changed so much as to allow the Illegal individuals to now count in the total number who receive benefits, then I do oppose that.

The law have not changed at all. People are going on what they hear & to appease their bias views. While illegal aliens do not and are not qualified for welfare they pay taxes(more than many Americans).

Wouldn't the question be better asked: "Should government welfare programs be opened up to illegal immigrants?" When I last applied for assistance (a few years ago), everything was tied to my SSN. No SSN, no benefits, and that only one of the hurdles.

What mental wrangling has to go on for someone to think that just anyone can sign up and start drawing right away?

The old "praise in public, admonish in private." Order them to stand fast after formation . Give them moment to explain their insidious set-rep. then tell them what will be done to rectify the set -rep... which can range from not good to quite bad., depending on who's view it's coming from.

Ehhh, I am going to say it depends. What many folks are not thinking of here is the risk to larger society of not medically treating a sub-population of people that live among us. That is how epidemics start. So in the area of vaccinations, disease, and preventive medical care I would say yes. If they are too poor and do not have a job to provide for their families, I am OK with it as long as it remains short term and their trip out of the country is expedited.

PO3 Donald Murphy - They will come regardless, until the Border is made more secure and penalties for illegally entering the US include a permanent ban from ever entering if found in the US illegally. I have been in La Paz, Manzanita and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Walk one block away from the "Tourist" areas and you will see exactly what is meant by the term "3rd World Country". But, if I was born in and lived in Mexico with no hope of a decent life, you wouldn't be able to keep me out of the US either.

PO1 John Johnson - But grabbing that thought process by the horns, *WANT OF A BETTER LIFE* means one thing and one thing only: money. They are not coming here for our schools, our beaches or our food. They are coming here because they need money. So if they cross the border and go to the John Johnson company *AND DO NOT GET HIRED,* then what? Then they will go to the Don Murphy company next door. If the Don Murphy company *DOES NOT HIRE THEM* then how many companys are they going to go to? From a demographic perspective, did illegals arrested in Florida cross the border in Oregon? No. Did illegals arrested in Texas cross the border in Delaware? No again. They are not going to roam the USA until they find someone to hire them. So keep the border exactly how it is and then stop illegals from getting hired. Thats the only reason they are here.

PO3 Donald Murphy - Money, not living in squalor, better education, better medical services, cleaner environment; safer areas to live, etc.; money's not the only deciding factor, but you do need money to live, period. My but includes: I would learn English as fast as I can, keep my living spaces clean, drive the speed limit, root for the Raiders in the NFL and stay out of trouble and do the best I can not to be a burden. that's all I mean.

PO1 John Johnson - The influx of money into Mexico says different. They are sending money home from America. Were the livelihood to be the deciding factor you'd notice an influx of families into America and a depopulation of Mexico which we're not seeing. Very few families make up the overall picture. Also, Mexico is not as third world as we like to portray them. However, they are a class society (upper class, middle class, etc) and like most class societies (Europe included), movement between the classes is difficult.

My mom is of Mexican heritage and has family still there. Its grim near the borders but family that go to visit don't report nearly the stuff that the pro-illegal workforce people spread on the TV.

Raiders? I think that'd be a jailing offense RIGHT OFF THE BAT...

The word "illegal" should be more than enough to answer this question.
