I am on the fence on this topic: on the one hand I think it is a nice gesture by the general public (the business' that do this) that they feel it is the right thing to do for those of us who have "done our time" so to speak, however I do get upset when I see fellow vets complaining because a business doesn't do it. I feel that we were doing our job all the years we served and nothing more in most cases and shouldn't expect any special rewards/treatment for doing it. What do those of you who are vets think?

Hope you long life in military, and/or Veteran community. I know my Brothers(which I know now, you would have who would leave behind.)
So I pray you continue and succeed, may no tragedy befall you
And may no brother snatch and steal your dog tags, esp. toe one.

Expect them? No way!

Instead, we should appreciate them. I personally like to reciprocate my thanks to those who show service members support. I want those businesses and people to know that their kind gestures are genuinely appreciated.

SrA Brandon Olsen, I agree and what I like to do is catch someone I know is a policeman, fireman or EMT eating out and secretly pay for their meal & leave. I have also been known to pay for everyone's haircut or style (for female members) when I got my hair cut without any of them knowing I did it. It makes me happy doing things like that for people.

Welcome to the age of entitlement! I don't expect discounts on Veterans day. Matter of fact, I try to get my "free meals" to go so I can go give them to some homeless Veteran, but restaurants do not allow this practice. I believe we should be less entitled and more gracious to our homeless brothers and sisters. Just my opinion...
