Does Socialism scare you? Well it scares me. Do we want heathcare for all better known as single payer? How about a GDP three times what we bring in? Wake up and pay attention to what's going on around you!

Many Americans do not understand what socialism is, and therefore do not understand who is or is not a socialist.

Socialist and social welfare spending are not the same thing. I prefer the terms "Nanny State" and "Nanny Staters." It is more accurate. Children have nannies because their judgment cannot be trusted.

Yes, I think a growing number of people in America want a Nanny State. They think they have a right to a prosperous and comfortable life, whether their decisions lead to prosperity and comfort, or not. I don't, because... If I as a taxpayer have to pay for your bad decisions:
_poor dietary habits,
_poor fitness practices,
_poor educational choices,
_poor family planning choices
_poor birth control decisions,
_poor decisions on the use of alcohol and narcotics

Then I should get to make those decisions for you.
_You will follow a government proscribed daily dietary regimen if you fall outside certain metrics
_You will maintain a certain level of physical fitness or you must participate in government mandated and government supervised physical fitness activities
_You will only individually pursue those educational and vocational training programs determined by the needs of the state.
_You may not engage in procreative sexual activity without approval of the state
_The state will determine when, where, and how much when it comes to alcohol, tobacco, and recreational pharmaceutical substance use.
_In the absence of financial security, you are a ward of the state and may not make life choices for yourself.
Failure to comply will result in criminal and civil punishment. That said anybody out there still want my help if those are the terms.

I know I am arguing the absurd, but there is not a single item above, which some government, at some time in history has not tried to implement, for all or part of its population. I believe in freedom of choice and I also believe in the freedom to live with the consequences (good or bad) without the police powers of the state mandating that I rescue you. Just like other freedoms we as individuals should have the freedom to help or not help our fellow man as we see fit and as they deserve, rather than because the government demands it. I am not inclined to help people who totally disregard obvious and highly probable negative consequences of piss poor decision.

Maj John Bell You took that answer around the mulberry bush but I think I got the jist of it and mainly agree. I know this system has never worked anywhere it has been implimented but the students K-12 and coll are being indoctrinated like Hillary clinton's mentor Saul Alisinski. I fear we could be heading in the wrong direction and even the democrats are worried.

You can always find a "portion" of the population leaning in almost every direction imaginable. Generally, you need about a third to have a significant effect. Only about a third supported the Revolution (Rebels). Another third opposed it (Tories). The most vicious battles were fought between them. The last third just tried to stay out of the way. While a third may be leaning towards socialism, I don't see evidence that enough of them are as in favor as fully one third are committed to stopping it. Interestingly, the most committed socialists are among the recently college educated. Skilled tradesmen and entrepreneurs are dead set against it. Obviously, our institution of higher education are indoctrination centers, and recently graduated teachers are spreading the gospel of socialism among K-12 students. I'm beginning to think that all the agony over who is President is merely a diversion to keep our attention off the really important elections. Local school boards. And the more prosperous alumni of colleges and universities need to start cleaning house at their alma maters.

CPT Jack Durish Wow I really hope your right. They are following the (not sure of spelling) Saul Aliniski playbook that is said to be a 100 year indoctrination of our youth. As Hitler said "He who controls the youth, controls the world".

SPC Richard Zacke - I get to work a lot with youth as Education Outreach director. They are far more conservative than the Millennial generation. Of course, that can change once they reach the indoctrination centers on American campuses

AbGDP 3 times what we produce now would be a good thing, and is not Socialist. What's wrong with healthcare for all? And, specifically, which candidate are you referring to, because none of them are Socialists.

Using the "Socialist" label is a typical scare tactic. It keeps getting resurrected every election cycle.

SPC Richard Zacke No, he is a self proclaimed Democratic Socialist, which is something entirely different. I suspect you need to educate yourself on the topic.
