Do you think there is a place in the school system for Halloween?

IMO its just commercialism and does not belong in the school unless there is going to be a realistic attempt at education behind it....for example it's background in both the Christian and Pagan religions and it's impact on modern day religions. But let's be honest that does not happen....its just an excuse for teacher to not make lesson plans for the day and for kids to goof off. Anyway I found this article interesting and thought I'd ask the community what you think.
Addendum...Just to be clear I support the celebration of Halloween but there really needs to at least be a thin veil of educational value placed upon it....book report, history lesson, social studies lesson...something other than hey lets sit in class and get free candy....anyway as I've commented several times below this is just this guys opening volley on holiday...wait till Nov and Dec and see what he launches then...

If it makes school a bit more fun for the kids sure. Education does not always need to be serious

Fair enough.....thanks for comment.
Yes why not? I would put money on it the those who are against this type of thing in school are out with their kids going door to door trick ot treating!
This is one religious holiday that has all the religion sucked out of it. I support goofing off for a day.
I will agree, however, that it has become horribly commercialized - but all of our culture has.
