President Obama is urging for an independent task force to investigate deadly police shootings.

My take is these shootings and killings have been investigated and either charges have been brought forward or they have not. How about worrying about ISIS and real national security issues instead of stoking the flames.

You are right. This is an unnecessary expenditure. When an officer is involved in a shooting, the first thing that happens is their firearms is obtained for evidence. They are then placed on leave in order to decompress. There is ALWAYS an investigation.

As a former police officer, this comes across, to me, as a slap in the face saying a department, or the department(s) doing the investigation into the shooting (because it is rare that the department/precinct that the shooting officer belongs to does the investigation due to conflict of interest) cannot do their jobs.

I know in North Carolina all officer involved shootings are turned over to the State Bureau of Investigations (SBI).
