Do you use nicotine or tobacco products? What have you done to quit or tried doing to quit?

I saw a stat when I was in basic that said if you make it to 18 without trying tobacco, the chances of you ever starting are pretty slim, UNLESS you're in the military. In which case your chances actually increase.
I was no exception. I started dipping at 17 and did it on and off for about 20 years. Never was a habit smoker. I've been completely tobacco-free pretty much for the past 3 or 4 years and didn't have any issues just stopping but I know others do and it's a major part of military culture. How many times have you tried to stop and what, if anything worked for you? When did you start smoking/chewing/dipping?

What did it for me was the conversation I had with my life insurance agent; 1993. Fella gave me a quote I thought reasonable only after which he asked if I smoked. My affirmative answer nearly doubled my monthly premium. Talk about "making it real." I quit smoking that day.

Nicotine will show up on a drug test. If you lied Im sure your policy would have been voided.

SSG Carlos Madden - Thanks! I wasn't getting the results I wanted from my blood pressure meds so I just quit. I've been tempted but haven't taken one. Still have a couple rolls in the freezer taking up space. Probably chuck them on the year anniversary!

SSG Benton Miller - Do it! I quit once during MOB. I was laying in my rack before chow and had this instant wave of disgust, spit the dip out and tossed the can. I didn't dip again for like 4 years. Then I started again for a couple years, stopped again and haven't been back since. I realized a lot of the habit was the routine and physical aspect of chewing/spitting something so now I spend my days eating skittles, pounding selzter, sunflower seeds, and this replacement mint chew stuff that's pretty good. I'm tapering off the nicotine (e.x. Zyn) pouches.

SSG Carlos Madden - It just becomes part of who we picture ourselves as. Good for you SSG that's awesome! Yeah it's something to keep us occupied then traps us! My dentist likes me more now plus a little extra coin in the pocket! Actually a lot of coin! Lol copenhagen is expensive! My son uses the zyn pouches but I never got into them.
