Anyone who wants to go back to Panama with me let me know. I can dream of it, but cannot go back alone. Too many things forgotten and too many things not.

I was in Panama for a few months doing a humanitarian/Guard mission in 96. Went back through in our Army airplane in 01. So much has changed. Weird seeing the Panamanian flag flying over Ft. Clayton. Was happy for the opportunity to play tour guide for my crew. I'd go back in a heartbeat. Talked with a few of the locals...they really miss our presence down there.

I was assigned to the 193rd Support Battalion after I assisted with the deactivation of the 92nd MP Battalion as part of base closure (April 1995 - April 1998). Went back for Jungle training with 3rd SFG August of 98. Still believe to this date that it was a mistake to close the bases in Panama.

1190th Signal Battalion Corazal Panama. Spent 3 1/2 years there. Best duty assignment out of the years in. I felt safer walking down Via Espana`Blvd than most places in the U.S. Married a local and have a daughter from that marriage. I went just about everywhere in that country. PLDC was at Ft. Sherman. An experience to remember.

SP5 Christine Conley - There were two parts of Corazal. The barracks were an old Mental Hospital called Casa De Loco. The military part was across the road, the PX was there and other buildings. SatCom was on that side as well as Battalion HQ. We also took care of all phones for all branches of the military and network connectivity to the States in the area.

Panama has been my home since 1998. Reach out to me when you plan on making your trip. You will be amazed with the changes; not only in the City, but also the various ex-military sites (i.e., Howard AFB, Amador, Albrook AS, Fort Clayton, Corozal, etc.). I don`t get over to the Colon side too often anymore due to safety reasons.
