I have a buddy at Polk and he did, so I'm wondering, I thought it was purely a training post for those stationed there.

11 ACR is a FORSCOM operational unit. That means it they can deploy. As a current 11 ACR leader I can tell you that shouldn’t happen as we don’t train to fight like anyone else. The 05 deployment didn’t go so well and I don’t think it would be a good idea to try that again.

question on different matter if I may, how does person know if a certain person's name is being used as a scammer from this base? my daughter is being scammed and i can't convince her otherwise. he says he is on deployment from Ft Irwin. but from my knowledge they get deployed, but while deployed have very little contact with people or families back home. he says he is a SSG.. deployed to Africa.. i sure would appreciate some help here ..sorry this is away from the real question. An answer is appreciated. soon

Barb N Rick Hanneman - if it feels like a scam, then it is likely a scam. There may be individual deployers or a unit like the MP Company that could be deployed. The Army has a number of theater security cooperation deployments in various countries around the world. 11th ACR is not deployed. There is no way that any service members walking around are going to know if someone's identity or likeness is being used by a scammer. Recommend you turn it over to LE.

PVT(P) Aaron M. M. Bryant, someone has already said it on here, but they did deploy. Twice to my knowledge. Not as an entire regiment however. The 11th ACR replaced TF Olympia in Mosul in 2005. 1-Star command up there. Then portions of the regiment deployed during the surge. Not all of it. The Army was trying to solve a huge problem it had in rotations to Iraq and Afghanistan and one part of the solution was deploying the 11th ACR. Unless there is another war that empties all available active and guard units, they won't deploy. That being said, they are in the field 6-8 months out of the year.

We did not during the Gulf war, was 177 AR BDE back then. I believe the water treatment unit deployed on post was the only unit to go. 1/52 Infantry switched to Bradley's during the war.

I arrived at Fort Irwin in November of 2005. The Blackhorse as a unit began returning to Irwin from their deployment to Iraq. I remember a national guard unit that was called up to serve as OPFOR in the box while the Blackhorse was on deployment. I think the guard unit was apart of the Nevada Army National Guard.
There are more comments about Irwin that I posted a couple of years ago that could be helpful to you.

All combat elements deploy. While the primary mission of OPFOR is to assist commanders in preparing their units for combat, they (all such Trainjng Centers) have deployed their elements in support of various combat environments. How often and under what circumstance fluctuates, but it does happen. Thank you for your service.

I think the last time 11 ACR deployed was during the surge. At that time they even deployed units from Korea.
