Does a New Tattoo Ink Allow People With Diabetes to Monitor Their Blood Sugar Levels?

A research project by students at MIT and Harvard shows promising results, and could lead to a fully-functioning biosensor tattoo ink that reliably indicates glucose levels. Unfortunately, the research has so far only been tested on pig skin, has not been subject to rigorous trials, and is still at a relatively early stage. What are your thoughts? I think this is incredible.

I am 74. I was diagnosed as a diabetic in 1992. I have never had a tattoo but, when this is approved, if I am still alive, I will get my first and only tattoo.

Having more than a few people in my life who have lived with this disease for most of their lives, if it proves to be a inexpensive and accurate way for them to lead a normal life then it is a great accomplishment. This even could wind up leading to a cure if proven to be effective.

If the choice is a stick or a glance, you have your answer. BTW, if it works on pigs, that means it most likely will work on us. Pigs have interesting compatibility with the human body. That's why various pig parts wind up being transplanted into humans. Heart valves have been a long standing procedure. Last I heard, they tended to be good 7-15 years. So if the inks work with pigs, that's a good sign.
