Does a person have any claim to serving or being a Vet if injured in a pre basic training course and not making basic training?

If they never even made it to basic, then no. There are certain exceptions if someone is hurt in training, but since they didn't even make it to BCT, no.

Thank You Sir! The person this happened to has nothing because I’m pretty sure they weren’t considered as being enlisted why else would it take a lot of calls and complaining for Tricare to pay the bill! The military/tricare claimed they weren’t responsible so that plus everything else tells me this person has no right to claim soldier status little lone Vet status! I just want to make sure that I’m right when I as my husband would say “click their heels” and call them out and set them straight that they need to shut their mouth and stop acting like they are owed something! As a military wife my personal opinion is as most here, get through basic/ AIT and do something for your country and then we’ll talk.

If you failed college algebra before your acceptance to Medical School, you would not be a doctor. However, if you were accepted to medical school after failing college algebra (unlikely at it may seem), you would be a doctor if you graduated from said Medical School.

My ex brother in law went to MEPS. Joined Army Reserves. Went to basic - didn't even make it out of reception. He was there for 2 months as they outprocessed him I think for failure to adapt and I think he hurt himself somehow in reception.
He doesn't qualify as a veteran. If he ever tried to (he never has) say he is I would smack him in the face.
