I just came down on orders for Fort Polk with a report date in 3 months. Does that mean the unit Im going to is deploying soon?

Quick orders do not always mean deployment. The needs of the Army will always come first. I would wait to see when your orders come down if it is an accompanied tour you should not be deployed right away. Also, I do believe that FT. Polk is a training base and usually, that means non-deployed units. Good luck to you.

Highly doubt it Polk is a training center not a place units deploy out of anymore atleast

Actually, JRTC and Fort Polk does deploy - quite often - as it is home to 3rd BCT 10th MTN as well as other FORSCOM units. JRTC Operations Group is the training center, everything else deploys from here.

SGT(P) (Join to see) Just reach out to your next unit and ask. JRTC is mostly training units and a quick PCS doesn't present a great chance to being deployed according a friend of mine who was there for 5 years. Again, maybe you might be the lucky one who does deploy from there with a unit. Your sponsor or someone else in the unit will be your best answer to your question.

True story...
My NCOIC greeted me just as I was walking into work one day. He asked me, "What do you have on your plate today?" I told him, "Nothing really." He said, "Good, you just came down on orders and have a report date in 20 days."
Yeah, 20 days to clear Germany and report to Fort Bliss. I had a wife, two kids in elementary school, and a dog.

I got 36 days from the time Branch Assignments called me to verbally inform me I was going to Korea, until my report date. The orders came 10 days later. Clearing was interesting... On the flip side, I had to go ask for my hard copy orders when leaving Korea when I was 10 days from DEROS.

Don't speculate. Call your sponsor and find out for sure. If you were going to deploy upon arrival they would already have done the mission rehearsal and lead up. Have you googled the unit to see if they have already made a press release?

LTC Jason Mackay - Sir, I was a BN Sponsorship Coordinator. Soldiers CAN leave a unit without a sponsor at the gaining unit. This generates an Exception to Policy within the Sponsorship system. In turn, the gaining unit gets a black eye for not assigning a sponsor, and the unit commander likely gets a little ass chewed too.

SSG(P) (Join to see) - When they first rolled it out DHR was directed by LTG Ferriter to not issue orders until sponsorship was complete

LTC Jason Mackay - Yes sir. TPTB have made several changes to policy as well. For example, Senior NCOs (E-7), Warrant Officers (CW3, and Officers (CPT) do not have to participate in the Sponsorship program; it is optional for those personnel.

While it never personally happened to me, I knew several Soldiers that had orders come down out of the blue. "Needs of the Army" doesn't always make sense on the ground.
