Does any one know if the Covid-19 vaccine is mandatory in the military or if it is going to be?

When they say get shots you get them. They might not even tell you what you are getting, depends on the person doing it.

SGT, that's incorrect, each shot is recorded onto your shot record and medical history, so when you deploy, your medical team can determine who need a shot and who doesn't.

Eventually it will be mandatory just like the others on the massive list of vaccinations Military members get. Military folks get a large amount of vaccinations already and if that is an issue for you that may be something to think on. But considering nothing has been released or initiated outside of testing I wouldn't put the cart in front of the horse just yet in regards to COVID. But eventually we will have a vaccine and eventually it will be mandatory for Military.

At this time COVID-19 vaccination is not mandatory. Army is currently conducting a survey on who wants the vaccination, who is considering it, who will discuss with their doctor, etc. That could change, or perhaps it won't, I think a lot of it will come down to the commander and how the commander feels about the vaccination.

The flu shot has always been mandatory I don't see why the covid shot would not be mandatory.

Cpl Vic Burk why the V.A.? Are you active duty? Active duty are required to get the flu shot. If you're not active duty you can say no.

LIsten, you all. You're no longer kids. Just obey the VA like you did your mom and pop.

There has been no listing that contains the military that I have seen, but I would bet money you will. The reason you get immunizations is to ensure you are capable of performing your duties and your unit is not deadlined because their personnel strength is inadequate. Covid is world wide so if you need the immunization to ensure you can be deployed and you do not represent a hazard to the rest of your unit.
I've read opinions in this thread that it is experimental, once the FDA approves it, it is no longer experimental unless the FDA classifies it as such.

Cpl Vic Burk - You are correct that there is no guarantee of safety of a vaccine for every individual, however, if you go to the FDA site, you can review the procedures the FDA goes through before extending approval, even on an emergency basis.
As a combat engineer, and teacher, I am sure there have been many occasions where you made a decision, and expeditiously accomplished actions to address the situations. Those actions may differ from what you might have done when there was unlimited time, but they did reflect your professional judgement and corrected the problem. After reviewing the procedures accomplished by the FDA, I think you might be more confident in their decision.

LtCol Robert Quinter - You do have some good points Colonel you are correct, I have had to make fast decision in the field and classroom. I just feel it was rolled out too fast due to the pressure by the federal government and I am worried that it will have negative effects somewhere down the line. I hope and pray not but we don't really know just yet. I am even more worried that if they give the vaccine to pregnant women that it could possibly be detrimental to the unborn fetus. I can't think of anything worse than that and this area is certainly untested. I've lived, and lived a relatively good life and would rather have something happen to me than a child not born yet so they could have a good life also. The fetus had no say whether they are in favor or against the vaccine. OK - off my soapbox!

Cpl Vic Burk - I haven't seen any data on impact on pregnant women or the unborn. Considering the age of most expectant mothers, you could question whether the vaccine is more of a threat than the disease. I'd really like to see the data from the test groups.
I had to laugh a little when I saw the VA advertising for volunteers to test some of the other vaccines in development. As a 73 year old with one kidney, COPD and heart problems, I don't think I'll leap to the front of that line, but I will take one of the existing...hmmm, my wife could get her new living room furniture if it backfires!

LtCol Robert Quinter - Now Colonel! I don't think your wife would approve of that last sentence. I know you are joking! I tell my colleagues at school that if I die my wife will be a quarter million dollars richer (yes, she would be!). I don't think that would make her happy though.

Oh, hell yes it will be mandatory. They were still giving Gamma Globulin shots for Cholera when I was still active. Your arm felt like it was going to fall off with that one.

Any vaccine issued under an "emergency use authorization" is "experimental" and CANNOT be mandated. Once a vaccine is fully approved, it can be mandated. The covid vaccines are still "experimental"...

Well the last I heard it was still voluntary but they seem to be moving towards coercion and then the next step after that they will make it mandatory.

I would expect it to be eventually. My Navy son is sitting on the Nimitz and after looking at 4 metal walls all these long months he has volunteered for the vaccine hoping it might allow him to get leave sooner. I advised him not to get it as I believe it was rolled out too fast but he definitely has a mind of his own, lol. Praying he doesn't come home a zombie ;-)
