Does anyone else feel like we're a generation of excuses?

I hear it ALL the time at work; " Oh this is not normal behavior for them, they're going through something." or the people who are too easily offended, so now everything has to change to make amends for that one person. I feel as though this is the military and you volunteered for it. Unless it's disrespectful or dangerous, suck it up. We ALL are going through something. We ALL have different beliefs and morals, but at work we need to be professional regardless of whats going on.

I agree with you on this. I have a radical perspective of this that is in line with the likes of Friedrich Nietzsche. It is that of the Übermensch, or the Overman. Sometimes it is called Superman but I don't think it does it justice. The Overman is one that raises above and transcends from the common denominator. In society we have a heard mentality. As you are finding everyone has excuses. They use these to justify their failures or lack of ambition. It is accepted because all of their peers do the same thing. But to the Overman it is not the case. They raise to a higher level "over" others. Given its a higher state of perception of the paradigm of others. They see the situation and call it for want it is. But as you may find to the others it is not encouraged as you are different to them. But as Friedrich Nietzsche has it not everyone can do this or attain this status. You will always have these that complain and are eager to perform at the lowest expectations accepted. But those that realize what is happening around them find it difficult to rationalize what is going on and we never will. Trying to understand their logic would be like trying to rationalize why a drunk gets drunk. There is no benefit or reason to justify this but their impulses control their actions. I am sure if you asked them why they are complaining they couldn't even give you a good answer besides it is just what they have always done.

Yes, we old guys think yes, but you are far better prepared to answer that.
