I'm the brigade S1 for the 303d MEB, located in Oahu. We're the higher headquarters for the forward support engineer company in American Samoa. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or looking for contacts in the local area.

I have email correspondence with one of the recruiters in American Samoa, trying to get some information on AGR/ADOS positions there. I ETS in September and am looking to enlist in the reserves soon after as my wife and I are moving to American Samoa next year to be with family.

MAJ Walker - glad you saw the conversation on going. You can probably give SGT Heering a much better picture of what you have as per the actual AGR positions in the unit and specifically as to MOS. Its actually from your desk the ability to say more as to if or if not there are openings as well as bigger picture. Thanks again for catching this. EU

SGT (Join to see) As SFC Boyd mentioned below, the you will have am opportunity to transition into any of the Reserve positions you qualify for when you go through the SFL-TAP process. I can also assist you in transferring to our engineer company if you still need help at that time.
AGR is a separate process for which you have to apply through HRC as LTC Udouj stated. ADOS positions are tours of varying lengths in which you are on active orders, normally providing some kind of temporary support or project work for your unit. They are not something you can count on for any long term stability as you don't know when they will become available, and if they do, you may not be selected. For ADOS tours, you apply through the Army MOBCOP website.

LTC Daren Walker I am currently ADOS here in Alaska and my ETS is in September. I plan on enlisting right away over there and applying for anything full time. I have looked on MOBCOP under Tour of Duty and have not seen anything as of yet.

There are several USAR units in American Samoa. I was an AGR there a while back as a CO CDR. You have CO B and CO C of the 100-442nd Infantry Regiment; Theater Support Group American Samoa Detachment; 962nd Quartermaster (Mortuary Affairs) Company, and the 411th Forward Support Company. All are under the 9th MSC out of FT Shafter Flats on Oahu. There are usually a few flights out of Hickam going through AS each week on their way to Oz as well as Hawaiian Airlines.

Here is info in regards to the new range they finally got built. The training area there is in the jungle or on FAA lands. https://www.usar.army.mil/News/News-Display/Article/1827056/army-reserve-established-pacific-stronghold-in-american-samoa/
Army Reserve established Pacific stronghold in American Samoa
American Samoa has historically played a pivotal role in the security of the Pacific. In 1878 the U.S. signed a treaty for the establishment of a naval station in Pago Pago Harbor, United States Naval

Also - here is some more info in regards to the AGR program. One of the items about USAR AGR program often misunderstood is that it is not like the NG's AGR program where you stay in the same state. Like Big Army - needs of the USAR come into play - but a very different world in where those needs are at and really is no different in weighing your options of where next to be stationed when time comes to PCS. There is as many different angles as Big Army in that... but known some that managed to do AS and then Oahu and then back to AS. All MOS driven though and as you get promoted - you got to go where the promotion is. https://www.hrc.army.mil/Enlisted/AGR/application procedures

Most do not understand that item because assume it is like ARNG AGR. But it is a military career. Unit Administrators are the civilian positions that tend to stay long term and are the backbone of a USAR unit. Also - to get on AGR you have to submit a packet during the boarding times each year. Your Reserve Career counselor can help you with that and building it and submitting it. But take note on those time lines for submission. Critical item -- everyone is boarded.. its not like a paper drill action.
