Cold weather gear! I was born in ND and my extended family still farms near Devils Lake. The terrain is mostly flat. My Mom always said, "There isn't anything between Devils Lake and the North Pole except a few barbed wire fences." If you're going there to learn how to build bridges, I'm guessing you'll be doing outdoors work. If your training is anytime between now an April 2021, I'd say pack cold weather gear, both military and civilian. There's not a lot of entertainment in the local area or any large towns. Suggest you take your favorite movies or TV shows on MP3 or similar device. Don't know about web access in the area. It's very rural--didn't get electricity to my Grandparents farm until 1947. Picture was taken at Coe farm in winter less than 25 miles from Devils Lake.

My family is over in Center and Washburn. I was up there once as a kid when it was -40 with wind chill. That is why I live in Texas!

LT Brad McInnis my parents brought me south when I was 3. We only visited ND in the summer. The nearest town to the farm is Crary. My grandmother and aunt lived their later lives in Grand Forks.

Warm clothing, very warm clothing! Used to live 20 miles away, so bring your’ Arctic issue. Ice fishing gear too. Walleyes and giant perch through the ice are great. DL is a premier ice fishing destination. But stay on the plowed roads!
