I'm in split ops with the National Guard. If you don't know, thats where you go to BCT between your junior and senior year of high school, then AIT after. I'm at the after part, I leave in a week for FT. Sill and I was wondering if you had general tips or ideas. And if I should make sure to bring anything with me.

Your initial clothing issue, if you are flying, hygiene items that will make it on the plane. Make sure any paperwork you have (awards and such) is in your carry on luggage. Then remember that you are going into a training environment and you are not back on the block. Basically don't be a dumbass.

Bring your ass and your head. Your sergeants will ensure that you will be taken care of. I was Artillery for 8 years and chemical for 11 years. Listen up and pay attention. You will learn how to dig the infantry out when they screw up.

The Wolfhounds (42 inf) learned that real quick when they hit an LZ without a prep. A regiment of NVA pinned them down. Pay attention, listen and learn. Steel is an important factor on the battlefield.

Go online to the school website and look for a packing list. There is not much in Lawton. I was station there from 07" to 09".

To back this up, the high temperature every day for the next week is 100. It'll get extremely windy at times, especially if you experience snow, which I doubt you may due to the length of your AIT, though you may if you get held over, which can happen if there aren't enough slots open for the school.

I like your motivation. Set your goals and standards high. Be a team player. Take initiative to help others succeed too, but let them do their work.

In all honesty since you are a 14G you'll have a decent amount of time in AIT. Make sure to obviously bring the essentials, however if you would like you could bring some small things like a computer, etc. you can also pack a few pairs of civi's because unless they have changed it within the last two years as you face that you get to where your civilian clothes for some period of time. Have fun in AIT. Also as you phase up you'll have a chance to go to the PX, so if you want to pack light you can always get things there later on.
