I am a 35D All Source Intelligence Officer looking to get downrange before this is all over.  Does anyone know of any Reserve units that need a 35D and are deploying soon?  Where can I find the ARFORGEN chart so that I can contact the units directly if need be?

I'm going to give you an honest opinion here.  I am not making a personal statement about you.  I did not look up your background.

People who ask for a specific assignment without an offer of anything they bring to the task or explanation of how it will fit into their larger goals are what my boss calls, "shiny object chasers."  Deployment, Air Assault School, or whatever flavor-of-the-month thing people have decided they need for their careers mean nothing to the people who will ultimately decide if you you get to go.

When my AD unit was on the patch chart for Afghanistan, Soldiers called, stopped by, emailed, anything and everything to get the BDE CDR's attention because they wanted to go on the deployment.  90% of them got a "thanks, but we've got this," response.  People who actually got attention talked about wanting to be in a Battlefield Surveillance Brigade (that's what we were) and could competently explain why, or people who showed an intimate knowledge of the mission and could bring something to the table.  For example, "Your unit will be fielding the new X system and I was part of the team that tested it..."

ToD is a "black hole" because without contacts or a compelling reason that you stand out above the others, you have to understand that you are part of the 90%.  Look at how many other 2LTs just on this site are echoing your sentiments.

If I were in your shoes, I would be frustrated too.  All I can tell you is that for as "disadvantaged" as you might imagine you will be because you didn't deploy, we all have our "disadvantages" because for some reason, we feel the need to judge each other based on who went to Iraq vs. Afghanistan, and when, and how many times, and with which units, and whether you were a fobbit or not.  It will take a long time for this all to shake out, but ultimately it will not matter because you are on par with your peers.  People who should worry are the E6+, O3+ types where the fact that they haven't deployed is unusual.
