I’ve ran into some senior stars over the years and noticed some wear only a couple ribbons or so. To me it just looks better, I’ve been trying to find the exact reg on it and just want to be in the right, thank you!

AR 670-1, Section 22-2 states:

a. Commanders may require the wear of authorized awards on the following occasions:
(1) Parades, reviews, inspections, and funerals.
(2) Ceremonial and social occasions.
b. Unless directed by a commander per paragraph 22–2a, authorized awards are worn at the option of the wearer, when not prohibited, during normal duty hours. Personnel may also wear authorized awards on appropriate uniforms when off duty. Personnel are encouraged to wear authorized awards on the service, dress, mess, and evening mess uniforms

What you probably saw was GOs wearing the "top row", from Legion of Merit up.
Everything below that is implied.
It's kind of reminiscent of Ike just wearing one row on the Ike jacket.

This is one small reason I always made my NCO's get in and dig the regs for answers. I would also give problelms to my NCOs so they had to dig the regs. I was a firm believer that if you had to dig for it you would remember it. As a leader making them dig was good, but I never let them fail. When they got lost, coming to me for answers, I would direct them with a question in the right direction. This is the process of making leaders, which I am sure you will be climbing the ladder a little higher. Have a great dayu
