Hand of god
What are the best arguments for or against the existence of God?

I mean an omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent, omnibenevolent Supreme Being -- the eternally and necessarily extant Creator of the universe.

Atheists, Theists, Agnostics, Polytheists, Pantheists and anyone else are all welcome to weigh in!
I'm not asking what you believe, I'm asking about the best arguments for or against the existence of God.

To clarify omnibenevolence, I mean simply 'perfect goodness,' not "the quality of being kind and generous towards everyone and everything." CH (CPT) (Join to see)

Most people have heard the statement, "There are no atheists in foxholes". There has been great debate over the years about who the original "orator" was. There is an organization that is working on dispelling that notion however. The Military Association of Atheists and Freethinkers has managed to round up 200 members worldwide of the current population of 7.4 Billion. The Hagel plan last year stated, "the active-duty Army would shrink from its current 522,000 soldiers to between 440,000 and 450,000. That would make it the smallest since just before the US entered World War II after the attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941." If they do shrink to around 450,000, the prospects of MAAF picking up new recruits doesn't look good. Psalm 14:1, Psalm 53:1(KJV)

It would be an interesting interpretation of the facts...survey all MOH winners, Distinguished Service Cross, Air Force Cross, Navy Cross, as well as the Silver Star...find out if these SMs were God fearing or Atheists...I wonder what this would reveal.

My point: Do Atheists make better heroes, or do God fearing SMs, knowing salvation is on the other side, take more heroic steps during battle.

Does anyone have this data?

Regardless of who said it, it's wrong. There are many atheists "in foxholes" so to speak.

Michael, If I had to speculate about your question based on nothing more than personal bias and perspective, I would bet that MOH inductees (I don't consider it something one "wins") are more likely to be religious christian because chrisitans believe there is a better life that happens after this one, and they may be more likely to sacrifice their life than an atheist that understands we only have life and this one is is. although I acknowledge when you're in battle, and you experience the kind of stress and danger that has to be present for you to warrant the MOH, it's likely that religion and other bias don't factor in at all and totally take a back seat to what is happening in the moment, and protecting your buddies to your left and to your right.

SPC Harmon,
I don't recall ever seeing a whole lot of foxholes with men and women in them. Same sex battle buddies usually.

Perhaps you have been watching cartoons? Was there also a duck that exploded and its bill rotated to the back of its head. But, then to speak, it moved its bill back around to the front of its head? Was popeye also in this scenario you speak of?

While doing some Independence day reading found: "Of all the systems of religion thet ever were invented, there is none more derogatory to the Almighty, more unedifying to the man, more repugnant to reason, and more contradictory in itself, than this thing called Christianity" "I believe in the equality of man, and I believe that religious duties consist of doing justice, loving mercy, and endeavoring to make our fellow creatures happy....I do not believe in the creed professed by the Jewish church, by the Roman church, by the Greek church, by the Turkish church, by the Protestant church, nor by any church that I know of. My own mind is my own church. All national institutions of churches whether Jewish, christian or Turkish, appear to me no other than human inventions, set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit"
Thomas Paine, The Age of Reason
can you not examine what religion does to the eople of the world?

The OP is not about religion, it is about the existence of God.
