Does it bother you to hear "Thank you for your service!"?

All active duty stand down(but don't walk away, this will effect you later) Veterans does it ever bother you to hear that? "Thank you for your service" I apologize but it mmmm...bugs me something awful, telling me " your done go sit down and grow feeble " needs changed to something that endures like we do something like "YO JOE!" or another saying meaning get outta my way theres work to do and I ain't done yet! Forgive if I wasted your time, just wondering.

When the statement is serious, rather than perfunctory, absolutely not.

Serious, perfunctory, or something in between, another person has taken the time to say thanks and to acknowledge your service. With all due respect, Chief, it seems pretty c/s to "grade" the level of their thankfulness.

As a follow up on my rather terse statement, I submit this. One of the people at admissions at the local hospital saw my Rate and said he had never met a MCPO, he was a former Army 2nd LT. He took the time to talk to me and it was easy to see when he made the statement, he meant it. One of the Home Depot workers saw my license plate, he thanked me and talked about my experience, he meant it. During a road check by the State Police, the officer saw the plate and thanked me, I could tell he means it. It is not a matter of thanking me as much as the sincerity. As stated earlier, I feel I got more from the military than I gave, despite the career over which I served. When I see sincerity, I truly appreciate the comment from anyone, when I see it is something that is merely what is expected from the public, not so much. I saw what happened to our VN Vets during and upon their return, and will never forget those that treated them so shabbily. If anyone deserves that statement it is them.

Yes, it bothers me and always has. If fact, it makes me sick. No one told us that back late 60's or early 70's. In fact, many of us suffered the effects of Honorably serving our country. I was never spit on, but I did lose a shot at working for Southern Railroad because they said my hearing was bad. I told them they had not even administered a hearing test. They said it didn't matter, if I flew on helocopters I Must have lost some hearing. That was just a way to pass over me. Also had a college history professor named Krueger that failed me on a test. When I showed him in the book word for word that my answer was right, he just shrugged and said "Too Bad." He, in years later was featured in a news article about discriminating against vets in his classes and he bragged about it. So when I hear the words "Thank You For Your Service," it conjures up all the crap I went through. An apology should be made to those of us that served 40 or 50 years ago. Just saying the words don't mean anything.

Sounds like you have deeper issues to deal with. When an American citizen, whom we served offers their thanks be appreciative. At least they are acknowledging your service in a positive manner. I too have dealt with employment issues, get over it. I have had potential employers NOT hire me because I am a disabled vet. Their reasoning is that they are concerned that I may not be able to fulfill the duties of the job. Does it hurt? Yes, but I have learned to deal with it and move on. I don't have time to waste on hating those that choose to hate on us.

Sgt Myers. I don't Hate anyone. I don't have the capacity to hate. I never mentioned Hate anywhere in my statement. I said it made me sick. I inferred that I didn't like it. I didn't say that I have never corrected or insulted anyone for saying it. I Thanked them as any knowledgeable Vet would do. The question was asked "how do you feel about it." I answered the question honestly. Would you have wanted me to lie about it? And Please, don't tell me to "get over it." It sounds a little combative and we've already been there. And No, I don't [lan on voting you down because you have a right to your opinion. I believe you and I both stood for that once.

Bother? I find the comment rather condescending. I was a professional soldier with 23 years as enlisted and as an officer. I was, for many years, well compensated and continue to be with a nice pension and benefits.
No one thanks the mail carrier who spent 23 years delivering the mail in all kinds of weather.

So anyone that disagrees with you either has "deeper issues" as you said about me, or are "ingrateful" as you diagnosed the Major. You seem to have a real problem with freedom of speech. All you want to do is insult people, and fellow Veterans at that. You seem to be nothing more than a miserable person that wants to pick a fight.
