I want to go to community college to study for welding and computer classes to start my career into the information technology field. However the local college is offering the course for 500. Does the Army have some sort of benefit that will help me pay for the course?

(https://usarmy.skillport.com/skillportfe/custom/login/usarmy/login.action) Skillport is the place you need to be, take the tests and pass the final, print out the certificates and your unit should cut you a voucher to take said exam. Pearson Vue is the company that handles getting certified. If you need help with anything IT/Sysadmin related, I can help out as well as SGT (Join to see)

Agreed. I'd also suggest talking with S-6 personnel about the possibility of getting a voucher. It's not likely, but at the very least, you could gain training and contact resources from asking. VCTP, which TSgt Joshua Duplin mentioned is great as well, though it only pays for one certification and you have one year to complete the SAME training which is on the usarmy skillport site. Meanwhile, you could always do related training on sites such as edX, cybrary, and Professor Messor to learn it for free. To be more specific, I'd need to know what specialties you'd like to pursue.

SPC (Join to see) - So, many Net+, Sec+, Cisco, etc. There's plenty of that training in the platforms I mentioned.

Also check out http://www.wgu.edu/online_it_degrees/programs#

As part of your approved degree program you will earn various IT certifications. Which certs you earn depend on your particular program.

SPC (Join to see) said that welding was his backup plan if IT didn't work out for him.

PO1 John Miller - Ohhhhhhh. There was a period missing. I get it now. Silly me. I know welders can make good money. However, as you and many others have pointed out, some specificity is needed for more guidance past VCTP, Skillport, Professor Messor, edX, and Cybrary.

Look into tuition assistance and filing a FASFA and opt for NO LOANS.

Tried that Tuition assistance doesn't cover certifications. I'm already enrolled in college and FAFSA covers one at a time.

SPC (Join to see) have a look at skillport, there are a lot of free computer courses available and there are vouchers available to take the Cert exams. Hope this helps, best of luck to you.

I actuaslpy think this is fairly close to what you want from the Amer welding society, specifically for military transition....

This one is directly related to military transition for welding, look on Google for military online distance learning for welding....
