WHO IS THE BEST LEADER, MANAGER, OR COMMANDER YOU EVER WORKED FOR?
Mine was my Mentor/Commander (RET) Colonel John P. Edwards. He was my Commander at the 357th Aviation Detachment, SHAPE, Belgium and inspired me to become an officer and finish college, and reach for the STARS.

Lt. Gen. Bradly Webb the current commander of AFSOC. He was my group commander in England at the 352 SOG. He has always taken care of his guys/gals.

SFC August Andrade was our Platoon Sergeant in our Pershing Missile firing Platoon. Although Sgt. Andrade came from the infantry straight from Vietnam and knew little about the missile system he was expert at handling men. He could motivate people like no one I've ever worked for. He was always there for the troops guiding them, helping out where needed and most importantly he stood up for his guys. He was always approachable and gave out the most common sense advice in some of the most adverse situations and ridiculous situations. Sgt. Andrade also had a wonderful sense of humor making guys laugh when they were living in atrocious conditions. He spent a lot of his off duty time with the guys getting to know the men and often times their families. He taught me a lot about leadership that I carried with me throughout my career as a Federal Law Enforcement Officer for the next 30 years.

SFC Larry Greinke (He was promoted further but I am not sure how high) 977th MP Co, Ft. Riley KS. Larry taught me to see grey areas in life. I am a very black and white person by nature. I call things as I see them. Larry taught me compassion for others. We were MP's and I learned to always consider the people I was dealing with 1st and foremost. He made me a good cop in both the military and civilian world. I would rather take a troop back to the barracks and put them to bed than charge them with anything. I have been known on occasion to take a troop to the holding cell to let them think/sleep it off. I learned that good people make bad mistakes and that all people deserve a 2nd shot in life. Why ruin a career when I can make a life long friend. A friend who when we were down range would get me the equipment we needed for success. Larry was the best of the best and I suspect even as a civilian he remains such.

CDR Al Gorthy, The best CO i worked for during my entire Naval career. He expected everyone to do their best and excel at all times, He also amply rewarded the squadron when we did so. I would have followed him through the gates of hell if he lead us there.

I was blessed with an amazing combination of leaders in my time at the 31st MEU. I had Maj. Phelps, CWO3 Crone and MSgt Verret. Between the three of them there wasn't a single obstacle they couldn't tackle, not to mention their endless patience when it came to their Marines. They were cool headed, professional and completely changed how I look at the Marine Corps. I'm very thankful for the opportunity I had to serve with them.

Col. Peter C. Newell. Then Cpt. Newell was our S1, I was his driver. A true warrior and scholar, he coached and mentored the entire S1 shop; junior enlisted thru the PSG. He also helped improve the entire service while at Natick and later the rapid prototyping and development program.
