IMHO Many times it has to do with senior leadership and MOS. Many MOS's got funneled together at SFC which slows the promotion at lower levels. JMT

I don't think it is in some circumstances. Especially if they come in as an E4. Hard charger. Promoted in a year to E5. 2 more to E6. Makes E6 in 3 years.

I made E6 / UT1 within 5 yrs. Came in as a E3, but that was it for the next 7 yrs after I became eligible for Chief /E7 wasn't happening when they give the advancement exams just once a year and only make 3 to 4, E7 a year makes it a little hard compared to other rates in the Navy

Yes, I have run into Senior NCO's that advanced quickly and then was frustrated because they didn't know how to handle Soldiers, didn't understand Military protocol and knew nothing of field operations which resulted in taking it out those that did. I believe in the rite of passage and to become a Senior NCO you should spend time in each rank and earn that rank.

When I was in one had to have 10 years time in service before one could take exam for E7, but that was (peacetime) Navy.

I's say Yes! Possibly! For most individuals the answer is probably Yes, however, it really depends on the individual and their maturity!!

SFC Robert Walton
SSG William Ryan Yes the Promotion system is set up so it is possible to get to the rank in with TIS and TIG i think the question here is the individual ready and capable for the rank that fast? The Answer is no when under pressure Most fail that is proven with the leadership problem they have in the Military today.
