Didn't think battlefield promotions existed anymore. In the Army you can make E5 in 3 but I'm pretty sure there are time-in-service requirements that prevent you from getting too high too fast.

Wow, when I was in the CG I made E-6 under 6, (about 5 for me), and I was considered a hard charger.

Yes; what experience or knowledge do you have in three years to lead a platoon. Normally a SSG is a squad leader but there are many times where a SSG will be a PSG. I don’t think three years is enough for a person to have gained the knowledge and experience to be in that position.

When I worked in the Tampa MEPS. Back in 1998-1999. In the National Guard liaison office. A high school graduate with 4 years of jrrotc. As soon as BCT and AIT we’re completed. They were fast tracked to E-4 and if they got points fast enough they could make E-5 in 3 years. They only needed1 year as E-4 to make E-5. And 2 years as E-5 you can make E-6. With enough points and told and Enoch.

I respect fast trackers however; my personal experience their I’ll equipped to lead troops in critical thinking moments like combat.

One year in Nam I went as an E-2 and came back an E-5, so however long it takes to make rank, if it gets you out of the mundane things not doing, just leading, worth it.

Yes. Bless you on your rank advancement, but you were promoted way too fast for proper development in a wholesome military career.

I think someone can make rank too soon. There has to be some time for that person to learn prior to being promoted. You have to learn to be a leader at lower level with smaller groups or teams prior to being put in charge of larger groups. As far as how long...it will depend on the person. Some are just natural leaders and some have to actually developed leadership skills. The development time is paramount.

You have to learn to be a follower before you can be a leader. You have to learn to follow orders before you can give them. Leaders and supervisors are made not born.

Made E-3 out of basic, E-4 at 8-9 months due to an automatic promotion after "A" school, E 5 at the 2.5-year mark. I moved up way before I was ready.
