There have been a few discussions, as of late, about ethnicity in the military. I'm not sure about other branches, but neither the Marine Corps, nor the Navy have special regs for different ethnic backgrounds. I know of no regulation that says if you're a certain ethnicity, then this regulation doesn't apply to you.

One night, I was on watch as the ASDO (Assistant Squadron Duty Officer), I went down to check on my flight deck and hangar watches, and one of them had his cover on crooked and one pant leg pulled up. When I told him to fix his uniform, I was informed that wearing clothing this was was a (no kidding) "black thing". I told him I didn't care what kind of thing it was, either he fixes his uniform or I write him up for being out of uniform for watch.

You thoughts? And it doesn't have to be about uniforms

Rules and regulations apply to everyone...it's a military thing. You are always going to have that guy that wants to push the standard for whatever the reason. Usually I tell them if they don't like the regulation they can suggest an edit but until it changes we are going to do things the Army way. Way to go on enforcing the standard!

PO2 Kleeger,
Good job enforcing the standards, the military needs strong leaders in all branches to maintain high level of discipline and to keep the wrong impression out of the public eye.

Thank you, Sir. By the way, the man tried to write me up for racism. His Senior Chief stopped it

It's called failing to adhere to the standards which favors no ethnic background. The regulations as we all know are for everyone to follow and it's a shame that some can't figure it out. I've seen a similar situation that is kind of in lines with yours and it was squashed by the PSG before it hit the 1SGs desk. The soldier was clearly in the wrong and the PSG took care of it at his level. The SSG did an on-the-spot correction and it ended after the three went in the office.

That was my point, exactly, for this whole discussion.

The way I see it, if you are in uniform than you better wear it with pride correctly and look like either a Soldier, Sailor, Airman, and Marine. I don't have special privileges to wear the uniform in some other fashion than the rest of the Army. I wear mine according to the regulations and always will. I seen Soldiers do that before as a joke and the 1SG took care of that quickly.

A few years back we had a soldier on Ft Stewart who wanted to wear a vail and head dress IAW with her religious and cultural beliefs. The Army said no and we had some protestors at the gate for a week or two.
The soldier was given a discharge and released from service and that was that.
The soldier was a mechanic and the fear was the head dress limited her vision, and was at risk for getting caught in the moving parts of a vehicle.

Now we have the issue with hair styles for woman in the Army and are they targeting black or ethic woman.
I get the hair type for some woman is more difficult to control or style but the standard is what it is, find a hair product to control the hair and file a change to regulation request with the problems you have in meeting the standards. Don't first assume this is a ethic or EO issue.

Speaking of Ethnicity and Culture, why the hell does it take more than 30 days continuous underway time before they fly out some beer? I'm German Scotish English French American and that was a damn fool idea to get rid of the Grog Ration. On other country's ships they still have a Grog Ration i.e. beer. Just my own personal Ethnic Bitch.
