Occasionally, ignoring orders were/are exactly what was/is needed to achieve a military goal or victory. My greatest military hero, General George Patton, wrote the book on ignoring rules and regs...and orders. He should never have been muzzled or had his commands taken from him. That was all politics, and politics has no place in war.

Patton was a perfect example. He bent rules and challenged conventional thinking. In other words, think outside the box.
