What do you guys think about an American(obviously) flag on the navy NWU? The flight suits get them and so do the green cammies. Let me know your thought!

I think it's great. Not that it matters, but I feel like it makes us all a little more universal for the civilian population, and i wish every branch looked "the same" minus a pattern that was specific to that branch if you get what I'm saying. i.e. the Army has digital/ multi cams but they have the standard flag, patches, name tapes. I think standardizing the military as a whole's uniforms would be better PR and help civilians keep up a little better. Like I said, not that it really "matters" but it can't hurt. Besides, when we deploy, we will usually get a mission-specific set of clothing depending, in which we won't be dealing with American civilians. One of the things that I don't like about the military is that civilians are always in the dark (unless they know an immense amount about it) and it makes it hard to explain branches, and components. I think we more we understand each other as a population and the more civilians understand who is representing them the better. Uniform specifics go a long long way with very minimal effort, and they mean the most to civilians, both in this country and others. Look at it this way: when you seen pictures of other country's military, how serious you take them usually can have a ton to do with how good they look as a unit because it all begins with positional standpoints, i.e. image. Sure, performance is MOST important, but imagery is always going to be a first impression and the better we can make it, the better we look like a sound and "tight" organization whether you are Army, Navy, Marine, Air Force, Coast guard. Especially now with social media posting pictures on the internet.

Exactly. It's not to hard to implement and it makes us look like "one" military.

Sure thing! Not saying we all need the same uniform or same format even, but I think we already have SO many different uniforms so why make them different when they're already different? Sure, I know each branch deserves the right to have specific trademarks per component, but we should still come back to the basics.

Wrong sleeve. Blue to the front "if" a flag is worn on a sleeve.

Sgt Aaron Kennedy, MS Thanks but I didn't have the reverse flag patch. If I did I would have put it in the picture.

If they do I hope they wear the flag correctly and not as displayed in the attached picture.

Yes that flag was the only one I had on hand. It was just to show what it could look like. I realize that it's reverse

I've been retired for 3 years now so I'm a bit behind on uniform regs, but if I'm not mistaken aren't Sailors now allowed to wear a command patch on the breast pocket of their NWU top? If so, I think a subdued USA flag should also be authorized! Great idea and I actually think you should propose it to the uniform board!

I would prefer the subdued patch. I know that the uniforms are also worn on the docks but it seems silly to have camo uniforms and then put a target on the sleeve.

I agree. A grey and dark blue/ black flag would look cool too.

Ok well it's not like it has to blend in since we wear these pier side and at shore commands but I'll play. So we make it grey and dark blue or black to match the type 1 and make it reflective.

Not that it matters much any more with us switching to the TYPE III and the flag is on us.

I hate the Blueberries. The only time that uniform camouflages you is the one time you actually want to stick out, when you've gone overboard. I don't care what's put on it, I want the Navy to deep six that shit.
