SFC Wesley Arnold, Jr It was the M561 6x6 Gama Goat 1 1/4-ton Truck, for the 4.2" Mortar. Every field problem at least one suffered a breakdown. I was SO glad to get to Germany and the M106's !!

The first motorized vehicle I was licensed for was the M113 Armored Personnel Carrier while I was assigned to the 2d Armored Division at Fort Hood, TX. The tracks at Fort Hood (at least in my battalion) were not equipped with personnel heaters, which made rainy January nights on a hilltop rather uncomfortable. In Vietnam, I was an LPC (leather personnel carrier) driver.

M151 and M55XLWB in 1985. If you could drive those, you could drive everything wheeled in between.

Except Dammin Doats. Those were always dice rolls.

Due to knowing the right people I was given a military drivers license to drive every vehicle that we had at Fort Jackson at the time. I was asked what I wanted to be able to drive and I told him everything on base and he did it. I didn't have to do any training or take any tests. Cost me two boxes of groceries that I traded something else to the mess sergeant for.

Station wagon. Think it was a Ford. We used it to drive from the main Air Base to the Auxiliary airfield. It had a large deer deflector bumper on the front because "Bambi Strikes" were a major road hazard at night.
