If you have ever read the book Starship Trooper- by Robert Heinlein, not the movie- only veterans are allowed to vote ( I think they are the only ones to run for office.) A “veteran” was not necessarily someone who had been a soldier, but rather someone who had volunteered for a two-year stint in “Federal Service.”

No sir. We already have the Selective Service System (SSS). In my opinion, it should be expanded to every 17yo male or female registering so that they are registered by age 18.

I’m not sure what you see in SSS that has anything to do with service. SSS does not put anyone in the service. It’s a list of names from which to draw.

COL (Join to see), there are penalties associated with not registering for SSS. Among these are loss of student financial aid eligibility, loss of citizenship for naturalized males, and inability to work in certain federal positions. I should have been clearer with my recommendation that loss of voting privilege should be added to these penalties and apply to those who have not registered, male and female.

Oh yes, however, the premise is that unless you serve you don’t get to vote. So you can sign up for SSS or not. If you don’t serve you don’t vote. Put some skin in the game.

I have often thought of this, and think voting should not be a right for everyone. have you contributed to society working and paying taxes, going to school to educate, or even volunteered to help the less fortunate. no way in hell should illegals be allowed to vote, if a state says they can fine that state is excommunicated from participating for 20 years.

While I think I understand what your trying to say but just because you get paid for doing some work and they take taxes out doesn't mean you're contributing. Everyone contributes in one way or another. You can justify a person who has never held a job but deals drugs as contributing to society. May not be a positive contribution but there is a contribution. Our founding fathers knew their were stupid people in this country and is why Hillary Clinton is not the president.

with all due respect i disagree , not everyone can or will, a synopsis in oregon the prison system created prison blues marketed overseas as american gangster wear it gives the person enrolled a skilled job , instead of 250 they get out with a few thousand to give them a chance in society. why aren't we doing this with the home less and the military bases that were closed down under Clinton..... start a factory, power plant or whatever.... he look billets are housing, mess hall, daycare can all be there. drug dealers contributing? shoot them on sight.... they're killing our youth. distribution is done.

Interesting premise, sir COL (Join to see) Perhaps it might behoove more of us to recognise ourselves as a powerful vocal bloqüe of voters. I know I am very vocal about serving my country and the benefits of veterans/retirees.

Not at all. Not everyone could get a federal job even if they wanted to, simply not enough to go around. The only way it would be fair is to basically have the government control all industry and private sector services so that every citizen could have a chance to vote and that should never ever happen.

Outside of your socialist remarks (I know your not endorsing that). You’re thinking small. Everyone who wants it gets to participate. These aren’t federal career job. Except for military. It’s more like Peace Corp where you volunteer to commit a couple of years to earn your veteran status then go off to your life with an experience of what this government/nation does. Not everyone will have the same experience but everyone will have an appreciation for what has to get done. That way everyone who votes has some skin in the game.

COL (Join to see) - Yea not endorsing it at all haha. I'm still not sure it would be feasible for all the services we would be looking at to take the influx of what would be millions more than they have currently Id be shocked if the infrastructure was there. Of course these are all logistical objections, morally and constitutionally Id be against it as well.

COL (Join to see) - I feel at a certain point they would basically have to turn people away and then the dangerous question pops up... who gets to decide which kids will have the right to vote and which wont?

Yes. That’s what it says. The book not the movie.
