Agree to some extent. Great insight on what some feel is the "right" NCO. Manning strength is a total different subject. And seeing what we are having to deal with in soldiers that are  coming in these days I wonder what is really going on with recruiting. Is it  a check the block or are we really putting in personnel that really meets the needs of the army? I've seen first hand recruiting is not an easy job!  Also, I agree on the married/single soldier/single parent issues.  I have had married couples as soldiers have more issues than single soldier/single parents as well. However, as a single parent myself, I always thought that was the purpose of the family care plan. But one can't be bias to what we feel  will work for everyone. Again, thanks for the insight.

Hope you are well. Was reading through some CMF analysis and we might see some changes in the future in regards to the single parent issue. Keeping fingers crossed and I will let you know directly as well as post on here if and when that change comes down the pipes.

 Thanks for the quick response. However, isn't that what we as soldiers/NCOs  do anyway, being a single parent or not. Work long hours, weekends, holidays and etc; fill positions away from our support, be stable all around being financial, emotional, and etc. And provide a family care plan just to continue our service. And its not just recruiting that is demanding, other MOS's are as well. I know, they are not your rules and regulations and I thank you for answering.

Thank you! While I don't make or sometimes agree with the policies or regulations, I do understand the reasoning behind them. I also agree with your statement of that being what some NCOs do anyways. My personal thought is that historically single parents compared to non-single parents have presented more uncontrollable variables for the Command than desired. If they can control the amount that variable effects mission, they will. Recruiting isn't the only demanding MOS out there by any means. 

Some food for thought. If we fail to have the right NCOs in recruiting positions the Command risks having potentially national negative attention. Also, if the Army fails to meet the required number of new enlistments in a given period, the rest of the Army is effected with manning strength needs. These are tough factors the powers that be have to take into account on policies and regulations. 

However, from my own experiences I will say that my single parent NCOs rarely have let their personal matters effect work. I've definitely had more issues with married and single NCOs without children. This is likely why they evaluate each applicant on a case by case basis and take the Total Soldier Concept into strong consideration. Just understand, they aren't definitively saying no to single parents. Simply they are looking at whether the Command's mission and the NCO's needs can be met harmoniously.

I've been looking at for the past 8 months.  Just PCS'd to Korea now SFC, but will attempt to drop a packet from here and see what happens.  I have connected with a few Recruiters on RP and have fielded a few questions through them. I have a friend who's a Station CDR in Raleigh and an old BN CDR that was BDE CDR of AMEDD Recruiting in Knoxville, so they both gave me excellent advice as well.

First, love the last name! Glad to see you seeking advice through your personal network. Always good to get an idea from those that have a direct perspective. Korea was my first duty station several years ago and I'm sure you will enjoy the culture. I'm going to provide you with some info about applying for Recruiting given your current OCONUS status. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.

BLUF... If you want to apply, start prepping your packet and submit it once you have completed 2 months on station and before you hit your 6th month. For short tour areas (1 year tours) you must have between 6-10 months until DEROS. Also, if you have less than the required 6 months, you probably already have a return assignment, or soon will have one and we cannot get you diverted into the Recruiter Program. If you want to become a Recruiter, you need to apply as soon as you meet the time on station requirement and not wait until you have the minimum amount of time left until DEROS.

I have been wanting to go Recruiting as soon as I have my first NCOER. I just lifted by stabilization code and am ready to move on to bigger and better things. I love speaking to people about the Army and the benifits that it can provide. I know it changed my life for the better and I know it can for others as well.

I have a question. I recently left USAREC after opting to not convert and to be frank, I miss it. I understand I have to be on station for twelve months before I can reapply, but what is the likelyhood of being selected to return to recruiting? Thanks for any advice and answers.

USAREC isn't currently accepting requests to reclass from outside the command. You may try speaking with your Branch to see if they can select you for a 2nd detailed assignment or not. If so, you could then request to reclass while on assignment.

Best assignment choice I could have made. Awarded Gold badge and 3 saphires in 19 months and before I even went before E-7 board. Spent 4 years in Cincinnati with 1 year as nurse recuriter for north Ohio. Went to the CG too inform him that I had forgotten what it was like in the active army and was given my choice of assignments ( choose Europe in 1980). Loved it ans was well treated

Good morning. I have a couple questions. I am cuurently assigned OCONUS and have submitted my RtR packet last month. I am now withing the 12 months from DEROS window and just received an email with a ATRRS course reservation for APR 2016, but my DEROS/ETS is FEB2016. When will I be put on assignment and be able to reenlist for this assignment?

Also, and preety important, when do I find out which of my assignment selections I will be going to..

Check with your S1 and schools NCO, they should be able to let you know when you are actually on Assignment Instructions (AI) to USAREC, which should follow closely behind when you received you ATRRS reservation. Once you are on AI it creates the Service Remaining Requirement (SRR) to reenlist or extend your contract to meet the 3 years obligatory requirement from the projected date of reporting to a recruiting battalion. You will need to speak with your unit's Career Counselor to take care of the SRR. 60-45 days out from your DEROS you should receive your Recruiting Battalion and Center assignment. If you don't by this time, contact either myself or SFC Nwizu the Assignments Team NCOIC at [login to see] . Just make sure your DA3822 won't be older than 6 months on the day your report to the Army Recruiter Course (ARC). The Assignments Team will need this and your assignment preference map properly filled out IOT place your assignment. FYI, you will PCS and report to your assigned Recruiting Center prior to going to the ARC.

You need to speak with your Unit's Career Counselor to take care of the reenlistment or extension necessary to meet the Service Remaining Requirement (SRR), which is 36 months from the date you report to your Recruiting BN. So you know, since you are OCONUS, you will report to your Recruiting BN first when you PCS from you DEROS date. You should get the Recruiting BN assignment around 60 days from your DEROS. If not, you need to reach out to the USAREC Assignments Team through the USAREC RTR Team for this. Once you have in-processed with your Recruiting BN, you will then report to the Army Recruiter Course (ARC) TDY, which is the APR 2016 date.

Currently my report for school is 8 June 15. I went to your facebook page as you suggested, and my question is would it be better for me to fill out and submit my commander packet now to include a mental health eval, and just get a new mental evaluation completed down the road as I get within six months of my school date in order to get a chance at getting an assignment sooner than my second week of school with the mind set being that I won't have an opportunity to receive the assignment email until after the packet is submitted?

Yes, I would complete the CDR's Pkt now and be sure to retake the mental eval again once it will be within the 6 month mark.

If your Branch nominates you and USAREC accepts. You will then receive an email with your Army Recruiter Course Reservation from ATRRS. The HRC Recruiter Team will then send you an email requesting your Commander's Packet to be completed and sent to them within 30 days. The sooner you get this back to them the better. You will then need to coordinate with your Schools NCO to take care of any necessary steps prior to your report date. My best advice would be to become familiar with the following: AR 601-210, AR 40-501, USAREC Manuals 3, 3_0, 3_01 and 3_06. If you have any questions or need assistance, please let me know. Also, if you send me an email to [login to see] , I can send you everything you need for the CDR's Packet and some other additional information for reference as well.
