If your going to be our POTUS, you better have at least an inkling of and idea about our foreign policy. According to this article, and several others, Ben Carson is lacking in this policy seriously. Ben Carson is lacking in several things in my beliefs. He will not make any better POTUS than Obama or Trump. IMHO, we do need someone with experience outside of our country. The similarity I think, it is like me enlisting, becoming a Private, and then, after six moths basic training, promoted to a General of the Armed Services Committee. It ain't gonna work.

“Nobody has been able to sit down with him and have him get one iota of intelligent information about the Middle East,” said Duane R. Clarridge, adviser to Ben Carson.

By Trip Gabriel NEW YORK TIMES NOVEMBER 18, 2015
Ben Carson’s remarks on foreign policy have repeatedly raised questions about his grasp of the subject, but never more seriously than in the past week, when he wrongly asserted that China had intervened militarily in Syria and then failed, on national television, to name the countries he would call on to form a coalition to fight the Islamic State.

Faced with increasing scrutiny about whether Carson — who leads in some Republican presidential polls — was capable of leading US foreign policy, two of his top advisers said in interviews with The New York Times that he had struggled to master the intricacies of the Middle East and national security and that intense tutoring was having little effect.

The quality of the man is good, but he does indeed struggle regarding foreign policy.
Hopefully he chooses his advisors well.

Dr. Carson is a good and decent man. However the job of president does not want someone who learn on the job. Especially when someone has no experience foreign-policy or military issues. He would be a great vice president or perhaps a great secretary of health and human services. He just is not presidential material at this time.

SSgt Alex Robinson, Dr.Carson is a brilliant man. But like you and I wrote, he is not POTUS Material at this time. Thanks for your comment.

It stumps Obama too. I like Ben Carson but don't think he or Trump will last past the first primary.

That's why a President has a cabinet of professional staff - most who are either career politicians or diplomats. What's hurting him is he can't speak intelligible on foreign policy. That in itself is a failure on his campaign staff.

Carson has some experience issues, but he has never been exposed to this sort of thing. He will get better before the general.

1stSgt (Join to see) Should presidential candidates already have working plan regarding foreign policy instead of "working on the fly" or waiting until the general election to fine tune the details? I can remember many presidential candidates past that got hammered because their lack of foreign policy knowledge.

SSG Michael Hartsfield - Here's a simple question. Is the job of president one that can be learned on the job? I personally do not believe so. President Obama is a perfect example. We need somebody who has a little bit more experience than someone who was a brain surgeon.

SSgt Alex Robinson It's interesting you mentioned Obama's OJT and how lacking it was in many areas. With that past knowledge, shouldn't all presidential candidates be held to that standard and not have many knowledge areas left to "Oh, I'll learn about it once I'm there?"

SSG Michael Hartsfield - I don't see anyone working on the fly. I see candidates who are not read into the current issues on national security, economic issues and humanitarian issues, especially on a classified basis. Once elected the President elect will have 60 days to firm everything up. Until then reality is he sees what we see, but hopefully not from a biased source.

I question the ability of the Boston Globe and NYT to provide an objective assessment of Carson's qualifications. I don't trust them when they say someone is a "top advisor" (whatever that means), and I don't trust them to give an accurate depiction of the statement or its context.

If Carson said that China had intervened in Syria and they didn't, then that's a mistake. But I don't see how it's worse than Obama saying, before he was elected the first time, that we have 57 states. Somehow, he went on to be a President that some people believe is successful.

If Carson is elected, the same people who weren't bothered in the least by Obama's incorrect number of states will believe Carson to be the most abysmal President this country has ever had.

Well I think foreign policy has stumped many candidates for the POTUS over the years SGT (Join to see). I would expect Hillary Rodham Clinton would have a better grasp on foreign policy than many because she was Secretary of State; but, her grasp has probably slipped.
Candidate Obama did not have a strong grasp on foreign policy other than his intention to end all the wars from the previous administration.
A good President is one who knows his strengths and weaknesses and picks great advisors while he/she drinks from the firehose, so to speak, after being elected. At a certain point each president has become masterful in foreign policy in many areas.
President Reagan is a prime example. The former governor of California had strong principles which guided him through the many who thought detente made more sense than confrontation with the Soviet Union.
I think Ben Carson has strong moral principles which will guide him. He has a keen in telecet and as a neurosurgeon learned to think on his feet and make timely decisions in critical situations.

Just thinking here, but the reason we have a senate and congress is supposed to ensure the POTUS doesn't have complete control of decisions concerning Americans. So our system has gone bassackwards and we are being run by the very people who are supposed to be our protecters of tyranny.
