Fox just announced who's in Thursday's debates. There had been some grumblings that Trump would be excluded, but it looks like that's not going to the case.

Anyone else surprised to see they made room for Christie and Kasich? 10 seems...excessive.

SGT Jeremiah B. - Sergeant; If each potential candidate is given seven minutes to speak and then three minutes to rebut what each of the other potential candidates has said then the program will be five hours long (not counting commercials), or seven hours long (counting commercials - if no PAC commercials are permitted), or 12 hours long (counting commercials - if PAC commercials are permitted).

The program could possibly be FOX's greatest rating disaster in history unless we can convince the potential candidates to actually start throwing punches at each other. (If they haul out their 2nd Amendment Rights and start blazing away, then Fox will have a sure-fire winner.)

Yeah, that's my concern. It's literally no time for candidates to say anything of substance. I'm not sure how it will serve to thin the field much unless someone totally sticks their foot in their mouth and their name isn't Trump.

SGT Jeremiah B. - Sergeant; When you have an election campaign that last for (roughly) 42 months, you have to toss a little theatre into the last third of it or else people will simply stop paying attention to it.

What would be fun would be for each potential candidate to write ONE question which they would like all the other potential candidates to answer, have them all sealed in envelopes (unread), draw one out at random, and have all 10 of the potential candidates (including the one who wrote the question in the first place) each given three minutes to answer the question.

Repeat that four times (and don't worry if more than one candidate has written the same question - just give everyone another three minutes to expand on the answer they gave the last time them answered it [assuming that they can remember what they said previously or have anything more to say on the issue than they can say in three minutes]).

PS - Keep the potential candidates separated (so that they can't interrupt each other) and have the microphones automatically cut off at the three minute mark.

I appreciate that they shared their methodology (average of five most recent national polls). I find both Kasich and Huckabee to be surprising. I don't see how either would score that high among the R base. I could see Huckabee during the last election, but given how poorly he performed, I am surprised that he still has enough of a base to make the cut.

Personally, I would have made the cut at 6 or 8. However, at this point, I can see the logic in including more. It is way too early in the season for anyone to have a lock on who the final contenders will be. I have my suspicions for who the top 4 will shake out to be and even who the general election team will be (and who it SHOULD BE! :-) ), but most people aren't even aware of who the candidates are at this point. I guarantee that at least 20% of the population thinks that McCain is running.

To be honest, I can barely keep who's running straight and I'm paying attention. Too many candidates, potential candidates and former candidates running around. heh

Originally, they were saying 8. Even that seemed to be pushing it. It looks like they made room for Christie and Kasich. That's fine because I'm not entirely convinced that the current most popular candidates are the most electable.

I'm disappointed Gov. Perry didn't make the cut. He's strong on immigration and would likely quiet the Donald on that issue. Same for Senator Graham, who likely would stand up to Trump regarding the sickening comments Trump made about Senator McCain.

I'm not a Perry fan, but I think he brings a lot more to the table than a few of the guys that made the cut. It'd also be nice to see someone who knows the immigration problems take Trump to the cleaners.

To be worth anything the debate would have to be a 8 hour event if not longer, with 10 candidates.

I'm not. But Christie is just another RINO that has no credibility with me.

Will anyone even say anything? Or is it all PC rhetoric of nothing?

Even if his views are totally off, everyone will flock to him just because he actually SAYS something.
