Here is an article that has infuriated me beyond comprehension. It is not the content but the actions of the individuals who perpetrated the act. Veterans we have a voice it is time we use it within our government. Do you fellow veterans realize that less than 15% of congress has served in the military. Do you want to know why our voices never get heard. Now the younger generations of this great nation are treating our veterans who have bled for this nation and in cases died for this nation with disrespect and distaste. An Oh what about the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff trivializing the losses of life and limb it took to secure Ramadi. It kills me when one of our own, the senior leader within the military, trivializes the losses our military have taken during the most recent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. If that were done to Bastogne or Normandy there would have been serious repercussions. Here only a letter of apology to a mother who had the guts to stand up and say what was in her heart.

Well that really is "FUBAR'",,there was an incident pretty similar to that here in Alaska,,but there was one guy disrespectful towards veterans and our soldiers who were participants who lead a parade.I think most never gets reported or nothing done that is remotely fitting to the level of disrespect shown to our fellow bothers and sisters.

I believe in my oath I took when I first enlisted in 1990. I will defend this country against all enemies foreign and domestic. If he would have spit on a veteran in front of me, my path would have lead me to jail that day. This is a weakness of mine to watch a comrade of any generation be disrespected, is assault on the military all branches, all ranks, all genders, religions and races. This is an act of terrorism. We train, suffer and die for our country, I will not stand ideally by while any of my brothers or sister are treated in such a way. As for our flag, you don't like America . Get the HELL out, go somewhere else you don't have to stay. Maybe after a few years they will realize how ignorant they really were. Besides I've noticed they only buy small American flags, you know the plastic feeling ones, besides I saluted the flags on post, have fun urinating on that flag, my brothers and sister will be their to help you understand the error of your ways. I apologize for my weakness but this is one of a few subjects that really gets me upset.

I read about this the other day. Pathetic really.

I wonder what will happen to the Frat?

Is this what kids are taught these days? That desecrating the symbol of the country that gives them such freedom is cool and a good idea?

This is a deeper divide in society and more than just simple disrespect. I saw it in Austin and I've seen and heard about it other places. I'm reminded of Col. Jesop, and I'm paraphrasing, but he says "you live under the blanket of freedom I provide and then question the manner in which I provide it?" And I think that is what you see from elitist, mostly Republican types unfortunately, who spout off about patriotism and national security and what we as a nation need to do about it but then look down with disdain on the dirty, foul-mouthed, tattooed grunts who actually answered the call and did what was asked, right or wrong. And when mature adults can act like that it's not unbelievable that their children will act with disrespect toward those same grunts because of a perceived elevated status.

When was the last time you saw a group of Republicans disrespecting the flag? Anarchists and leftists from the democratic party are the usual suspects in crap like this. Then again, the real issue is why even bring political parties into the discussion.

Apparently you missed the entire point of my argument and can't handle even slight criticism of what I am assuming is your chosen political party. I didn't even say that Republicans disrespect the flag, I was speaking to the disrespect I have experienced from people who I know are Republicans and supported the foreign policy agenda that had us in 2 different combat operations who looked down on me for being a lowly enlisted grunt. These people liked to have people who keep them free, they just don't want to see them or interact with them. And that is the type of behavior from adults that leads to their kids thinking disrespecting veterans and the American flag is ok.
