I'm PCSing soon and these are two of my options. I'm not looking for anyone to bash on one or the other. I'm just simply looking for past experience or maybe current experience from what you've encountered while stationed at either of these duty stations. How's housing? What's off post like i.e. neighborhoods, shopping, recreation, family activities, social life? How's the Esprit De Corps?
-I've gotten some info from the Facebook pages and other sites, but would truly rather here personal experiences. Thanks in Advance.

Being an Army brat, I got to live at Bliss, and hated it, not a lot to do, took forever to go anywhere with anything to do, and since I've joined I've gone out there to do various PMT, and found not much had changed.
I'm probably really biased because I spent most of my youth here in the Clarksville/Ft. Campbell 6-12 grade and all of my HS years were with FCHS. I love it here, I re-enlisted to be here, and its a wonderful place to raise a family. Lots to do, If you are an avid outdoorsman, then you wont have a time of year that you cant, hunt, fish, camp, hike, there are tons of cultural features here, and even more history.
I'd recommend Campbell if you have the choice.

Fort Campbell #1 choice spent 9 years there loved it. Think of El Paso in the middle of the ocean and a 8 hour boat ride to civilization. They have actually cleaned it up since i was there in the late 80's and El Paso is the 3rd safest city with a population of over 500000 for like three years running (wanted to give them a little credit, been TDY there a couple times in the last few years). However across the border is a different story lots of issues (drugs, gangs, act…) with Juarez, Mexico. Depending on the car you drive (trucks are the most stolen Veh) you may find yourself without it shortly after arriving at Fort Bliss :)

I was at Bliss a few years ago. There is a lot of crime and there is not a lot to do in El Paso when it comes to recreation and social life. To get anywhere outside of the city of El Paso you have to drive a couple of hours.
I've never been to Campbell but I would not recommend going to Bliss if you have the choice.

I was at Fort Bliss pretty much from 1995-2002 and that's exactly how it was then...sounds like it hasn't changed. I didn't mind Bliss though, I liked to go out in the desert and shoot guns and that occupied my time. Plus, I spend most of my time with my family so I don't need other social outlets. My wife does and I don't think she'd like going back.

SGT Carissa Lara, RCS
CW3 Jones,
So far I like Ft. Bragg. It's not a bad place to be. In all honesty, I've only been here since March coming from Germany so I'm just glad to be back in the US. I also don't live in the city of Fayettville so I haven't encountered any of the problems that you hear about the Ft. Bragg/ Fayettville area.

SGT Smith from my personal experience. Campbell...yes you are goings to work hard but you'll leave a well rounded Leader. The ups is the surrounding community and the Post itself. You'll enjoy the "Tuckassee area has a lot to offer

Also forgot to add El Paso is always in the top three yearly for crime across the nation, so that should be a good hint to cover many of the categories you mentioned (neighborhoods, recreation, family activities, housing, etc.), it all dominoes into that area.

Never been to Bliss, but Campbell was my first duty station. But great communities around the post, tons of outdoor activities if you're into that sort of stuff and last but not least like SFC Baber said Espirt de Corps is very high on Campbell, no matter what unit (Bastogne, STRIKE, Rakkasans, Curahee) AIR ASSAULT!!! Hope you're qualified because if you're not, you're going to AASLT School, CG's new policy is that all leadership positions, including Platoon sergeant on down have to AASLT qualified

CG, is just bringing back the standard that was put on hold due to all the deployments. When I was there you had 6 months to get Air Assault qualified or you went looking for work (thats all leadership positions) We had a LT fail numerous times and he became the assistant to the assistant S-1. RAKKASANS!!!
