Hello, my people! I was recently asked to provide input on an NCOER we're writing for an E-6 who recently transferred to our shop. His losing unit did not write him an outgoing NCOER, so of course it falls on us to pick up the pieces.
The losing unit sang his praises, offering gushing adoration for this guy. But when we pressed them for bullets, they were unable to come up with anything concrete. Their failure to point to specific accomplishments more or less matches our observation of him.
He's a guy that would probably do well if we still had SP6 as a rank. So when my counterpart (his new rater) asked for bullets, this was my tongue-in-cheek reply:
* Can successfully inhale and exhale in sequence without supervision
* Routinely laces boots without causing loss of circulation to feet
* Surfs social media on his cellphone better than any other E-6 I've observed
* Maintains steady temperature in whatever chair he is occupying
So I thought I'd throw this topic out to all of you. Any humorous evaluation comments you've seen, or wish you could've included in writing one? Please share!

Everyone knew that I was in my office writing an APR for one of my better E-5 SSgts and I knew he was within earshot. I hollered "Anyone know another word for adequate?" Lots of laughs from that one!

I rated two SGTs on their way out. One for a DUI he thought he was getting away with... rated both 4 over 5. I can't even remember all of the bullets, but a few that stand out:
o successfully disappears from workplace early, whenever he actually shows up
o maximizes use of appointment schedule to ensure minimal effort is placed on his job
o capable of maintaining consciousness when properly supervised
o successfully completed his last APFT three years ago

I once was presented with a counseling statement from our BN XO, which I refused to sign, with the comment:
"CPT Burch's constant questioning of illegal, unethical and morally questionable policy decisions is undermining the unit's command authority"
Apparently the HHD CDR had complained to the old man because I questioned several of his rather idiotic policies and the CO (being a former college buddy of the HHD CDR) had directed the XO to give me a counseling statement.

Wow sir! I guess the BN XO did not realize what he was writing. If he would have slowed his roll, he would have realized that the CO's actions were questionable at best. This would have been a great document for presentation to the BN CDR or the IG if the environment in the BN was less than desirable. Just saying.

the kicker was that the HHD CDR wanted to force all E5 and below to take leave while we were deployed. That is a no go. You can't force someone to take leave unless it is recommended/directed by medical.

The XO was my senior rater when I was an Infantry Platoon leader and saved my bacon in the only BAD OER I ever received, and from my conversation with the rest of the Platoon Leaders and Senior NCO's, I wasn't the only one on the CO's hit list. The XO gave me a promote ahead of peers and the comment was "Outstanding performance as a Platoon Leader under extraordinarily difficult conditions". That condition was having one screwed up Company Commander. He was relieved shortly after and quietly removed from the unit. I actually believe the fact that he had pissed off my Platoon Sgt, Training NCO and First Sgt, so badly that they all filed complaints to the SGM resulted in his rather quick removal. Only time I ever saw that in the Army.
