I assume every post has them. Those creepy stories about things that go Bump in the night, Juicy Rumors about the post, Myths regarding its history, and even those Facts that sound so outrageous that they make you scratch your head when you find out that its true.
Building 4 Fort Bliss Texas.
The Old William Beaumont hospital still stands today and is located directly behind garrison command. It is said that this building is haunted by a COL, a Nurse, and several Soldiers who died in the hospital. Ever drive by at night and wonder why all the lights are on? Staff members have reported that when they shut the lights off when they come back in the morning, offices have furniture moved around, papers are scattered, and the lights are on. There have been reports of a man dressed in an early US Army Officers Uniform Standing in the windows watching people walk by at night. The Old CDC, it is rumored that an Army Officer used to lure Children from the CDC Down into a tunnel that ran under the building where he sexually abused the Children, and some say that one or more of those Children were killed. He killed himself, now his Ghost (A Dark Force or presence) haunts the CDC, and his victims have been known to grab your leg, and even ask to play. But run and hide when he is near. Another ghost in the CDC is a former caregiver, her story is that after laying an infant down for a nap she came back in to find that the infant had suffocated. Many years later when she died, her Ghost came back to the CDC. When she is around its said that the Dark force stays away, and you can smell her perfume. I have been into the CDC late at night, and the experience is unsettling to say the least. Even on a Warm Desert Summers night, there are times in the building where you feel a sudden breeze of Cold winter like air, and smell a perfume like smell. Ina building with 6 inches of bird crap on the floor. I like to think it was my mind playing tricks on me.
Baumholder Germany, until very recently (within the last year) there was a building here on the installation where if you looked close enough you could see where builders placed a stone Swastika into the buildings outer wall. When I was told about it, I did not believe that it was still there, and after weeks of driving around I finally found it. Supposedly it was left to preserve the history of the building and the base. I have no Idea why they removed it, if they kept it for that reason for so long.

To add my own experiences though: Camp Dodge in Des Moines, IA. I don't know if there was ever any cavalry there, but I was leaving the gym there kinda late one evening many years ago when I saw a man on horseback cross the road in front of me. He was close enough that I slammed on my breaks. He disappeared into the woods on the other side of the road.
B Co, 3-10 barracks on Fort Leonard Wood, MO. I was on fire guard and Soldiers were only occupying the ground floor. I heard heavy footsteps on the stairs from the second floor. I walked down the hallway to investigate and heard the door open and close, there was nobody there.

Fort Leavenworth is the oldest continuously running Active Duty Army post in the US. The US Disciplinary Barracks is here (the Old DB is haunted). Many of the on-post quarters are haunted and the hauntings are documented.
My personal encounters were in the winter.
The first one was while I was conducting PT (I do the 2 1/2 mile walk) along Grant Avenue, near the post theater. As it was near freezing, and it was about 0645, there was no one around me. As I walked by the theater building, I caught a whiff of pipe tobacco. I looked around, but there was no one nearby. The sun had not risen yet, so it was still kind of twilight. I slowed and took in another deep breath. More pipe smoke scent, but no smoke. I figured I had just passed near or through a spirit who smoked a pipe in life.
The second one was also during the winter, in the early morning hours. I was again conducting PT, walking along Pope Ave. across from Munson Health Center. The building I was walking past was under renovation. As I walked by, I smelled a whiff of lavender. I looked around, and again, there was no one else around. But, yes the scent of lavender was definitely there. I guess I had walked by or through a female spirit. I had remembered that construction on old buildings will stir up spirits who do not like their "haunts" to be disturbed.
