Senator Carl Levin (D Mich) Backs Pentagon Proposal To Cut Benefits
(Read Here: Http://Thehill.Com/Policy/Defense/224754 Levin Backs Pentagon Proposals To Cut Benefits )
It appears the Joint Chiefs are busy working behind the scenes to cut benefits including, increase in out-of-pocket fees for Tricare and requiring members to pay up to 6% of their housing costs.

MSgt Donald G., I'm disappointed to hear that, but not surprised. I assume there's tremendous pressure on senior military leaders to save money, and one way to do that is to cut benefits or increase the out-of-pocket costs to SMs and vets. We've seen the TRICARE cost increase threatened and coming for quite a while.

Here's a good link to the Matishak article: http://thehill.com/policy/defense/224754-levin-backs-pentagon-proposals-to-cut-benefits

I can appreciate the pressure they must be under; however, the military is always the one with the target on its back. A better focus would be wasteful spending on stupid "scientific studies" we already know the outcome of, pet and pork barrel projects. Military members and military representative groups need to speak up loudly. Gutting the military hurts the US standing in the world, makes us less safe and kills morale. Our representatives need to hear how members feel about this. I find it amazing that military families up through at least E-5 qualify for government subsidies and our leadership (Joint Chiefs) sit back on their big paychecks and support benefit cuts. How does that make them effective leaders? It certainly doesn't in my eyes.

MSGT I do agree with you. The military has always been one of the first to be hit. It's a long way from General's pay to a MSgt pay. I retored in 1976, the retirement pay of a MSgt tofay and mine is different. But there is always money for phones, now internet and other high dokkar projects. The othe day they said that SNAP overpayments were in the billions.
