Have you ever had a private sector internship before? Internship programs can be crucial in creating a foundation for developing skills and gaining valuable experiences for employment in the civilian sector. It's both a great way to refurbish some of the skills learned during the years of service and a way to learn new ones.
RallyPoint has found the 5 best private sector internships for you to check out and to see if they might be a good way for you to start your transition into the private sector or to have a career change.

Let us know if you have had an internship before, if so with which companies and what your experience was like, should other RP members apply there?

I would love to know if you guys can institute an option for soldiers looking for an internship. Personally, I would love to help our brothers and sisters in getting on the ground running! I can offer short term Internships that would allow them to get used to civilian work life and develop the needed networking to move forward in their careers.

SGT Joseph Goldman, what a great offer! An internship programme/page is definitely something that we hope to be able to facilitate in the future. If you have internships that target specific private sector industries or skill sets then you could try posting about them to those specific groups in RallyPoint and that way you would be posting directly to the people who would be a good fit for them.

Thanks for posting Elizabeth Malkin . I am currently exploring pre-MBA internships for the spring/summer of 2016 while I am waiting to matriculate into my program next fall. This was a nice list of organizations to consider.

CW3 (Join to see), congratulations on being accepted to an MBA programme, that is great to hear! If you don't mind me asking, where are you getting your degree from? We spent some time vetting the different internship opportunities to try to find a strong top 5 so hopefully there might be one that is a good fit for you here.

Elizabeth Malkin, I've been accepted to Vanderbilt University's Owen Graduate School of Management. Really excited!

I did internships for my MA in Jewish Education and in Chaplaincy. Both were wonderful...
While nursing may have some internship opportunities in specialized areas, they are not the norm. More nurses are needed on the front lines of patient care. There IS opportunity to excel at non-front line patient care areas, but those opportunities are fewer. I would suspect that there may be some internship opportunities available in those areas...few/none interest me, so have not looked.

Great opportunity. One of the things I ran at the University of Colorado Denver was the Boots to suits program which would pair student Veterans up with mentors in many different sectors. It was kind of a mini-mentorship and the results spoke for themselves - 94% of graduating Vets who went through the program found jobs within 90 days of graduation. An internship can have the same impact. I wholeheartedly support these.

SSG Izzy Abbass, thanks for letting us know, that sounds like a great programme! It could be a fantastic way to get some work experience and/or to try to get a degree at the same time. Here is the url to the Boots to Suits programme that Izzy mentioned: http://www.ucdenver.edu/about/WhoWeAre/community/boots-to-suits/Pages/default.aspx

My employer, Eversource Energy, offers paid internships to environmental engineering students and finance and accounting students. We are starting a management cohort program this fall focusing on Operations, Engineering and Logistics tracks to name a few. Details to follow in a future post. Corporate website is: Eversource.com (caps not required).

LTC Gavin Heater, that is great to know, thanks for sharing! It is fantastic that the internship is paid as well so that an RP member can be getting good experience on his/her resume and be learning about the industry but still covering costs at the same time.
