Has anyone else received a check from the VA for a refund on their VA home mortgage funding fee? Out of the blue yesterday I got a check in the mail from the VA, it said that it was for my home mortgage funding fee

Yes that is a thing. You should have received an official letter with it stating what it was for. Nothing wrong there.
