Has anyone ever been in a screaming match or any altercation with their superiors?

I was starting to once with a CPO who wanted me to have someone take out the trash because there was a lone Snickers wrapper. He didn't seem to understand my opposition to it, with the whole Fraud, WASTE & Abuse issue the Navy was shoving down our throats in the 90s.

I was a one month Platoon Leader when we went to Baumholder for 30 day FTX. Imagine my surprise when I walked down the icy stairs and saw the entire battalion with APCs Open, engines running, and lights on.....except for my Platoon. I walked back up the icy stairs and found my E6 Squad Leader returning to the barracks from a leisurely breakfast. I used profanity in telling him to get moving, and he stopped to tell me not to curse at him. That probably didn’t end well for either of us.

Yep. Almost physically went at the Battalion Commander. I was the lead Stryker VC, and stopped the convoy because my driver spotted a possible IED. But the BC, being in the back of the convoy, told us to push through, and we would probably be fine. Nice of him to think that.....

Twice. Once in each branch of service. As a Lance Corporal, myself and my Corporal generally exchanged quips in the Marines. Once while working the targets at the range, he was giving a brief to us while we were at attention. I called him a buddy fucker, jokingly. He told me to get down and push. I refused. Our SGT. , after hearing about the situation told us both to remove our blouses and go into the storage room and resolve our differences. We both respected each other again after that. This was in the 90's. Twenty years later I join the Army National Guard and get into with a POS MSGT (and I'm an E-4) because I refuse to sign the counseling sheet because I won't let their shitty dentist touch my teeth. He writes "soldier refuses to sing". I laugh and he is furious. I'm ready to ask him to remove his blouse and go at it old school but he left the room to pass up to the Lt. Col too fast. I then got a speech from the Lt. Col and still refused to "sing". Lol. It was a top heavy, small liaison unit and I was finishing law school. E-4 and JD didn't mix well.

I had an argument with an ANG, MSG that I was replacing on deployment. He thought he deserved some power tools to take home as a souvenir. I didn't yell and scream (not my nature). I just suggested that I would report them missing if they weren't there in the morning. He wasn't happy with me; yelling and stomping around, but he put everything back in the conex.

I never bothered to argue. I would just say "aye sir" and then go do it the right way. I got into several fights with senior enlisted on ship and nothing ever came out of it. I realize now that I probably should have been busted down more than once, but got away with a lot. Probably because we were deployed.

As soon as you yell back, listening has stopped. A good leader (up or down) has to figure out a way to get juniors and seniors to do what you want without them focusing on the credit that they are doing what you want. I have always told my Marines that there are ways to tactfully tell someone that they are screwed up without specifically telling them they are all messed up.

Yep, be a Diplomat which is a person that can tell someone else to go to H--- and they look forward to the trip.

Never. But I had some really good leaders that to the best of my knowledge never gave me an unlawful command.

Hahaha! He gave you the 3 times warning...so funny. Good job! Nothing wrong with being nerdy when someone doesn't understand you. At least he didn't rip the rank off your collar and tell you to report to his office later. :):):)

No screaming matches, but I did have a few occasions of responding to a question or comment in a manner that held much room for improvement in my choice of wording and tactfulness. Overall, I had a pretty good group of Officers and Senior NCO's throughout my time in the military, and they were for the most part, easy to work for and "vent up" to when needed.
