Take a look at this link, I think it may helpt to clarify exactly what is going on. If anything the USDA, and FDA have been trying to strengthen organic/small business, and keep to their overall mission of public safety. With all things there are so many variables, that it is never perfect..

Thank you SPC Glen Maylone , that was very interesting. I was going to get a load of cow manure mixed with composting from an organic farmer next week. I live on a sand ridge and now my garden is in trouble. I bought dirt for it but that just acted like it was sinking in the sand. Back in 98 and I used their compost my garden grew so beautifully. And I am still alive. But they dont over do it with them manure tho either. They mix the other compost material and leaves and let the pile sit for 2-4 yrs before they use it. thank you

I am a farm boy from Iowa. We used both cow and pig manure on the fields all the time years ago, especially in the sandy ground close to the Mississippi River. It worked great, but then again, non of the livestock was getting hormones, etc. For sandy ground you would need a dirt clay mix if you dont want the dirt to just wash through the sand. Quite a bit more expensive to do. Point was the FDA isnt targeting small farms, they are only interested in public health. Anyway, my pleasure, I hope it was helpful.

thank you SPC Glen Maylone, I did do that with the sandy ground here. I even tried more manure mixture last yr. In hopes to get my body able to build my little permanent indoor green house so I can grow all yr long. I to was born and raised up until I was 17 in Iowa. I really want to go back to visit my family who are still living around parts of Ia. But can't drive that far anymore.

Word of caution on manures..... If the animals were fed GMO corn (sprayed with RoundUp) there may be enough residual in the manure to tie more nutrients than it brings in. We ran across this with poultry manure in north central Iowa a couple of years a go.

I had not heard of these new regulations, PV2 Violet Case. A cousin of mine is a farmer (on a small scale), and she and her husband often rant about the big companies and unfair practices that favor the big boys. This appears to be just another example of that phenomenon. Kind of like tax breaks for large corporations. The big companies/corporations have the money to lobby lawmakers, and they use that money to hold onto their competitive edge.
