I seldom wear a suit or coat and tie. When I do, there is always a US Flag pin on my lapel. At a wedding last weekend, there were ? 30 men w/ suits. There were at least 4 Vets amongst the party, one was a service academy graduate and retiree. The only one w/ Flag lapel pin was myself.
Am I out of touch? WTF?
If you check the photos of my car, someone recently tried to remove one of the decals! They were foiled, I always slice decals w/a razor blade! CPT Aaron Kletzing LTC Yinon Weiss

To be honest, other than politicians, I didn't know wearing a flag label pin was a thing. where does one get one of these pins?

TSgt (Join to see) When I attend the local Veteran's Day and Memorial Day ceremonies there is a basket of pins for the taking. I take a pin, not any chocolate candies.

Definitely not out of touch!
I do the same with decals on my truck and car, i do an "X" with a razor. In Fleet parking in San Diego it was common for people to steal/ scrape off the base sticker year and month decals off someone's vehicle.

I cut mine into wee pieces, that is why the clown only got a corner from the driver's side decal. Same, same w/DMV decals!

CSM Charles Hayden Passed 7/29/2025 - FYI~DMV decals are now designed to fall apart when you attempt to peel them off. That's why you have to put the new one on top of the old one. So there is no need to do it to the ones on your license plate.

PO2 Jeffrey Sheibels How interesting! Thank you, DMV stickers were my training ground for slicing others

I always wear a flag on the lapel of my jacket and on the collar of my shirt if I don't wear a jacket. No, you're not out of touch. Those others are out of touch. I'm the only one at my church that wears a flag every Sunday. I see others wear them when it's Veterans Day, or Memorial Day.

I wear flag on lapel and sometimes unit device,I’m old school and grew up both parents military and taught as long as the American flag is flown and shown and all cherish the cost of that flag and hold it in respect and reverence then America is safe. I find myself praying for her everyday as I watch a lot of our children trying to tear her down everyday. I guess there was a reason our WW11 generation is called the greatest generation, they understood the world and they were proud to be Americans they all new the cost. Today our children don’t understand the price nor the pride of being a American because we have so many in our government that are selling America to the cheapest bidder and dishonor her daily by tearing down our Constitution our rule of law. CSM Hayden I think that little flag lapel pin is to be revered and honored especially by those who have fought for and served her!! Carry on CSM Hayden!!!

Flag lapel pins were virtually non-existent before President Nixon started wearing them when he took office in 1969. (I did find a photo of President Woodrow Wilson wearing one but that was the only photo of Wilson I found with him wearing the flag.)
After September 11th, wearing a flag lapel pin became popular (along with displaying the flag in general) and has since declined as our general sense of national urgency has.
As for me - I don't wear a flag lapel pin and I don't put one on my car (except for the one on my Veteran license plate) but I do fly the flag in my heart everyday - and that's all that matters to me.

As far as the flag with your suit, it's not a common or required thing by any means so it doesn't totally surprise me. My guess is that most people who buy suits don't go out of their way to find and buy lapel pins usually.
As for the flag on your car, if someone legitimately tries then that's out of line as you shouldn't mess with someone else's vehicle in any situation but my question is this, how long have you had the flags on your window? If they've been there a while they're going to go through some wear and tear, especially when they're cut like you said you did. Wouldn't be hard for something like a rock or anything else to nick it or for it to just lose it's stick and fall off.

When just that one corner vanished, I became suspicious, that is all I know. Several years ago, the entire right side flag vanished. That is when I started slicing and dicing when I put them on!

If you were outside the US it makes sense, because it's different from the norm... It's kinda like when I see 10th Mountain Stickers here at Fort Drum. We get it. You're 10th MTN. So is EVERYONE ELSE. It's not special or unique. You're just like everyone else. Same with the flag in the states. We get it. You're American. So is EVERYONE ELSE. It's just weird to me to take pride in the most common denominator. You were born here. Congrats. You and millions of others. But what have you accomplished? That's worthy of pride. Happenstance of birth? Not so much...

So no big deal your and American citizen, that’s profound SFC Hasbun you have nailed it to the wall. How can our youth be prideful of their Country when they have not been taught it's great history and the price it’s paid many times to keep this world free. Then we wonder what’s going wrong with our Great Nation, if a active duty senior NCO thinks this way we are in a heap more trouble then I feared.

SFC Michael Hasbun - I do owe you and apology I agree with your statement your spot on with your thought in today’s nobody’s a looser and everyone gets a participation trophy,I agree. I feel that in today’s America a lot of people take for granted the fact they were born in the Greatest Nation. that use to be something to be proud to be and American and you worked hard to be a good citizen and your right I did confuse Patriotism with Nationalism, I basically took my frustration out on you and apologize before all for doing so.
