Liberal def: : believing that government should be active in supporting social and political change

Conservative def: : believing in the value of established and traditional practices in politics and society

Independent def: One that is independent, is not committed to a political party. Often referred to as Constitutionalist.

You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that elected leaders should really obey the U.S. Constitution; if you believe that before the U.S. invades and occupies another country, Congress must first declare war; you believe the federal government should live within its means, like everyone else is forced to do; you think that taking away people's liberties in the name of security is neither patriotic nor does it make the country more secure.

Some people espouse definite liberal views but then say they are R or I or Libertarian.

Regardless of party, I am generally conservative but based on the posted definition, I am also a Constitutionalist. I believe as a country, we should always use the Constitution as our "center" when we as a country begin to wander. Checks and balances. That was the wisdom of our founding fathers and I truly hope the foundations of what they built are not eroded beyond repair. As citizens, it is paramount that we are not ignorant and study our history, stay involved and informed about what is going in politics and with world events starting with our local elected representatives, and be wise enough not to just believe everything we see but to use out common sense and to do some fact checking.

SSG(P) (Join to see) Yes, I too lean to conservative views. As CW5 (Join to see) stated this is a great poll question.

It hasn't changed me. My views depend on the particular issue, rather than neatly (or even mostly) aligning with one party or the other.

When I signed up, I was a liberal democrat without understanding the concepts of politics. My parents were democrats, so I figured why not? In my earlier days of enlistment, I was moderate-right, because I still didn't understand much. I then started learning more towards the left as my time went by. Now I can consider myself moderate-left.

My views tend to me more liberal when it comes to personal. Live with a liberal lifestyle while obeying the law of the lands, whatever it may be.

Even though my views are more leaning towards the left, I believe in a moderate and well balanced society as I see the benefits on both ends of the spectrum.

I like the Churchill comment that if you are not liberal at 20 you have no heart, but if you are still liberal at 40 you have no brain. I personally evolved to the point that I am seriously considering leaving the Republican party and joining the Constitutional party. Our Washington Republicans with rare exception surrendered to Obama and have given him everything he wanted for the last 7 years. My Republican governor and state republican leadership are also in the Obama camp. on a host of issues from immigration and resettling muslim terrorists here in the state, funding Obamacare and expanding medicaid even though the state does not have the capability of paying for the expansion and to opposition to constitutional carry.

SSG(P) (Join to see) my lack of military experience have me with no definition in this aspect yet. Since I moved to the states because of the military service, I still don't have enough political knowledge to describe myself as any of the offered options. I guess we latin people living here in the states will go with whoever offers better treatment to our hispanic brothers. It could be a political move, treating better the hispanics, since they are a voting force that you should not forget of and it would definitely influence in my voting decision. But as for now, I have to vote with "has not changed".

I think in two short years you will have enough experience to make an intelligent decision. In the mean time, stay current with political events and watch and see how your fav candidate votes...research their voting history is another great way to feel out your candidate or political party.

TSgt Tim (lj) Littlejohn I do get your point but, at the same time, when you are in a minority status you do check who offers the best to people in your position. And I'm not talking just about race, I mentioned it just because is my case. If a X candidate offers better benefits for retired Airmen, just Air Force retirees, it would appeal you better because you are in that group. For certain, it would demand weighting the options but that would be something that would weight in your final decision. SSG(P) (Join to see) I gotta be honest, I haven't done my research in the political aspect. I haven't stay current about what's happening in the Congress, I know is something that I'll improve with the pass of time but it will take a while until I start realizing how much their decisions affect me as a State side resident.
