While serving in Vietnam, our currency was replaced with Military Payment Certificates. Has that been happening in Afghanistan or Iraq or wherever troops are deployed in combat these days? In Vietnam, the humidity and rains quickly dissolved MPC into a glutinous mass which required hands of a surgeon to peel apart. Is this happening in these other deployments? Just asking...

While cash was sometimes used during my deployment to Iraq way in 2007, troops were using debit and credit cards in theater. Paper money held up relatively well, but plastic was available and convenient

I know we were paid in MPCs in Vietnam but I cannot remember ever carrying or using them, our unit was on quite a few extended operations, probably kept back in base camp, hazy recollection of getting pay before my R&R in Hong Kong, still have a few hundred Ps as souvenirs though
