So does this information surprise anyone?
How can we make a positive change?
What can a veteran do to achieve employment?
What are your suggestions to those running for POTUS?

It honestly didn't surprise me. This has been a constant and I don't see it changing until, well you could agree or not, a republican is voted into office. Primarily because I don't believe Hillary Clinton would do anything to help this problem and she'll be the one running for the democrats.

I've found it very hard, even with the incentives that were passed by Obama, to get a job PRIMARILY because, frankly, of the insurance cost. (ObamaCare) I only got the full time job after signing a contract stating that I wouldn't get on their insurance policy.

But I'm not going to sit here and act like I've got all the answers to this problem because I don't. I honestly don't know one person who really does but don't you think we should get a candidate that has proven to be more supportive of the military then say Obama or Hillary Clinton?

Oh and please attack the question and not the person. Thanks

ADMINS: I am sure you have probably been asked this several times, but on sites like FB etc.., it would be against the moral law (UNETHICAL) to change ANYTHING that you have posted, TITLES included. What you added was NOT my question. SO AGAIN, STOP MESSING WITH MY DAMN TITLES. You do not DESERVE the right to change ANYONES. That's THEIR title. THEIR'S not yours. I've been reminded so quickly why I got off the site... Admins disrespecting admins. People attacking people and not the question. Admins thinking they have this "control." ADULTS people. ADULTS

In the first place, the BLS data is pure political spin. Anyone who believes that the unemployment rate is 5% should check with the adult children living in their basements. If we used the formula and criteria used as recently as the Clinton Administration, the unemployment rate would exceed three times the reported rate. America is underemployed using part time jobs to cover the mess. Real earnings are down and still declining. Anyone running for POTUS should tell the truth. That's what the American people really need: A dose of truth. If we had newspapers and broadcasters that shared the truth, we wouldn't be in the mess we're in. Veterans and anyone else seeking a civilian job need the truth so they can plan accordingly.

Working in fast food is a catch 22. Most of those jobs are part-time, and people are looking for full-time. Those jobs also don't pay much more than minimum wage, and most people cannot live on minimum wage unless they have multiple roommates or live with their parents.

Capt Walter Miller - Ah, there it is. We are all Gloomy Gus's because we hate a black President. Well, Captain, the only thing I hate is stupid remarks like that. You have no idea of whom you are speaking. It is a personal insult, one that I'm sure you wouldn't have the courage to say to my face. Shame on you. You don't know anything about my racial attitudes. You simply attack me as a person rather than cope with that uncomfortable feeling you get when someone disagrees with you. How about this? Why don't you just take the time to say something intelligent in response to our facts and opinions, or simply keep the inanities to yourself? Generally, I laugh off nonsense such as your comment, but you caught me on a bad day (having just finished a bank transaction with a financial institution I would rather not have to deal with) and my sense of humor is somewhat crippled at the moment.

I wasn't speaking of transfer from military to civilian. I've got an AAS, BAS and am working on another AAS because the economy changes so frequently. Especially the last 8 years. I took full advantage of my GI Bill and I think if we were afforded enough to cover at least a BAS, that a lot of our vets wouldn't be in a precarious predicament. At least, it would help me. But I honestly get what you're getting at. Cpl Kenneth Darby

Oh, sorry, I would suggest that our GIBill increased. Educated veterans, more jobs. The amount you get is only enough for an associates. I think it should be enough for a bachelor's.

This is the critical thing - Get a damn degree. The Post-911 GI Bill should cover a state university to BA/BS level entirely and unless they gutted TA again or you have a hostile command environment with regards to time for education (I had one!), you can knock at least a year off before you even separate.

It didn't a BA. That's what I was suggesting. It only covers a 2 year plan. Believe me, I could use an extra two since I'm going back. I've got a BAd and no job for me so I have to pick a degree that's paying or hiring now.

I wonder if these statistics include the long-term unemployed (those who have been unemployed for so long they can't collect unemployment or people like me who weren't eligible for unemployment because I get my retirement pension and VA disability), those who only work part-time, seasonally, etc.?
